Due to the ongoing snowfall in hilly areas like Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, the cold has increased in the plains. The Meteorological Department has issued a fog alert in 10 states – Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
More than 100 flights have been delayed or diverted due to smog at Delhi, Kolkata and Lucknow airports. Flights coming from Kolkata, Patna and Srinagar have been affected at Indira Gandhi International Airport. More than 20 flights were delayed at Lucknow airport. At Kolkata airport, flights coming from Delhi and Hyderabad had to be diverted to Nagpur, Bhubaneswar and Raipur.
Apart from this, it rained in Delhi in the morning. 10 trains have also been delayed due to fog. At Kanpur railway station also, 93 trains were delayed by 11 hours. In Uttar Pradesh, 15 people have died in 24 hours due to cold.
There may be a sharp drop in temperature in Rajasthan from Monday. The day and night temperature may drop by 2-3°C. Cold wave will also have an impact. The period of severe cold will start again in Madhya Pradesh from January 7. There are chances of rain in most of the districts of the state on January 10.
