Nine security forces soldiers were martyred in a Naxalite attack on Monday in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. Naxalites had targeted a vehicle of security forces returning to the base camp after ending the joint operation and carried out an IED blast. The explosion was so powerful that parts of the armored vehicle were found stuck on a tree 30 feet away.
Naxalism started in the year 1967 from Naxalbari village of West Bengal. Today this is one of the biggest problems of Chhattisgarh. Chhattisgarh has been fighting Naxalism for the last 50 years. During this period many soldiers were martyred. Army and security forces have also killed Naxalites in many operations.

6 April 2010– 76 soldiers were martyred in Dantewada attack.
17 May 2010- 12 members of the special team and 36 civilians died in Dantewada.
29 June 2010– 27 CRPF soldiers were martyred in Naxalite attack in Narayanpur.
19 August 2011- 11 soldiers were martyred in Naxalite attack in Bijapur.
13 May 2012– Blast in NDMC plant, 6 CISF soldiers martyred.

Chhattisgarh became the 26th state of India by separating from Madhya Pradesh on 1 November 2000. The entire Bastar division is included in the Naxal affected districts of this state. Bijapur, Sukma, Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Kanker, Rajnandgaon, Balod, Gariaband, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Kawardha, Abujhmad and Balrampur are considered hard core Naxal affected areas. Apart from this, there are Rajnandgaon, Mohla Manpur Ambagarh, Khairagarh Chhuikhadan Gandai, Sukma Kabirdham and Mungeli districts. All these districts are included in the Left Wing Extremism districts. More than 60 thousand soldiers are deployed for the security of these districts.
The Union Minister of State for Home had said, “It is clear that the morale of the Naxalites has fallen due to the continuous action against the Naxalites. Along with this, the policy security rehabilitation policy and development related activities have also had an impact. Multidimensional change in the rights of the local people. And the concept of strong strategy along with employment opportunities has also worked towards reducing leftist extremism.
