AQI of Delhi was crossing 1000 in November 2024 The Air Quality Index (AQI) of many areas was 400 crosses during 18-19 November 2024 in Delhi. Apart from this, up to 1000 AQI was recorded in some areas. According to CPCB, 33 out of 36 air monitoring centers in Delhi were crossed by AQI 490. 15 was at 500, which falls in the category of dangerous.
Grap is applied when AQI 400 reaches 400 It is divided into 4 categories to check the pollution level of the air. Scale and measures are fixed for every level. This is called Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Under its 4 categories, the government imposes restrictions and issues measures to reduce pollution.
Grap stage
- Stage I ‘Bad’ (AQI 201-300)
- Stage II ‘very bad’ (AQI 301-400)
- Stage III ‘Gambhir’ (AQI 401-450)
- Stage IV ‘Gambhir Plus’ (AQI> 450)
What are important factors behind Delhi pollution, whose share?
- Pollution According to CPCB, 37% pollution in Delhi has been caused by burning straw in Delhi and surrounding states. In Punjab, 70 to 8 million metric tons of stubble is lit every year. This trend is also seen in Haryana, UP and MP. It is the biggest cause of pollution in winter.
- Trains This has increased 12% pollution in Delhi. According to the Economical Survey of 2023-24, there are around 80 lakh vehicles in Delhi. The smallest polluted particles PM 2.5 originates from them. In Delhi’s pollution, 47% PM 2.5 comes out of these vehicles. These vehicles not only emit harmful gases but also cause dust pollution.
- Factory Chemicals Factors are the third biggest cause of pollution in Delhi. The PM 2.5 and PM 10 emissions from the industry present in Delhi and its surroundings. According to The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI), it is responsible for 44% PM 2.5 and 41% PM 10 in the air.
