Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had met the patients admitted in the hospital in Srinagar on December 25.
The death toll due to the mysterious disease in Rajouri, Jammu increased to 17 on Sunday. The sixth and last child of Mohammad Aslam of (name of village), who was suffering from illness, died in Jammu Medical College.
An official told Dainik Bhaskar that Mohammad Aslam had admitted his daughter Yasmina Jaan to the Medical College of Rajouri last Sunday (January 12). The next day he was referred to Jammu, where he died during treatment this evening.
Due to this mysterious disease, all six of Aslam’s children have died. In the last one week, apart from his four daughters and two sons, his maternal uncle and maternal uncle have also died.
Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakina Masood has ruled out the possibility of a mysterious disease being the cause of the deaths in the village. He said that there is no need to panic. The results of all the tests conducted inside and outside the Union Territory have come negative.
Neurotoxin found in the samples of the dead Minister Sakina Masood said that if these deaths had been caused by some disease, it would have spread rapidly and would not have been limited to just three families. However, some health experts have said that ‘neurotoxin’ has been found in the samples of the deceased.
The Health Minister said that the government is taking the help of national level health institutes. This includes the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) of Pune, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) of Delhi, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of Gwalior and PGI Chandigarh.
No negative results have emerged in any investigation. Water and food items have also been tested, but no toxic substance has been detected.
Home Ministry formed inter-ministerial team for investigation Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday had ordered to form an inter-ministerial team to investigate these deaths. This high level team had reached the village on Sunday. The Home Ministry itself is leading the team.
The team includes experts from the ministries of health, agriculture, chemicals and water resources. Along with investigating the cause of death, it will also take necessary steps to prevent such deaths in future.
Earlier on January 15, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Reasi district Gaurav Sikarwar had constituted SIT. The 11-member SIT is headed by Superintendent of Police (Operations) Wajahat Hussain.
