The Central Government on Tuesday introduced Immigration and Foreign Bill-2025 in the Lok Sabha to organize the movement of foreign nationals coming to India.
According to this bill, if someone brings, stays or settled a foreigner in an illegal manner, he can be imprisoned for 3 years or a fine of Rs 2 to 5 lakh or both.
It will be mandatory for any foreigner to have a ‘legitimate passport and visa’ to come to India. The opposition opposed this bill in the Lok Sabha.

Government can stop foreign from coming to India
If any educational or medical institute, hospital or private housing owners keep a foreign national, then they will have to inform the government first. If any foreigner enrolls in any institution, then he will have to fill his information in a format and give it to the registration officer.
The purpose of this law is to fix national security. Also, the rules related to coming and going in India have to be tightened. Under this, if the government feels threatened by a foreign national, then the government can prevent that foreign national from coming to India.
The responsibility of the government’s progress
In the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, while presenting the bill, said, “The country’s progress, sovereignty and peace are the responsibility of the government. We are not bringing this bill to stop anyone, more and more people came here but must follow the law of our country. “
Along with this, he told that if a person enters India without permit, stays illegally or uses fake documents, then he will get strict punishment.
Whatever foreigners come to India, it will be necessary to register on Arrival. Apart from this, restrictions will also be imposed on name changing, going from one place to another and walking from protected areas.
Strict punishment for breaking the rules
According to this law, foreign nationals will have to follow the rules related to entering and living in India. If someone breaks the rule, he can be punished severely.
An entry into India without the right passport and documents can impose a jail of up to 5 years and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh.
Use of fake passport or visa can lead to imprisonment of 7 years and a fine of 1 to 10 lakh rupees. Even after the visa is over, stopping or going to restricted areas may imprison a 3 -year jail and a fine of up to 3 lakhs.
India releases both physical and e-visas. Citizens of Japan, South Korea and UAE get visa-on-arrow. According to the Union Home Ministry, more than 98.40 lakh foreign tourists came to India between 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.
Opposition opposed
Opposition parties protested against Immigration and Foreers Bill 2025. Trinamool MP Saugat Roy said that the bill can stop the flow of talents coming from outside.
In response, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said that the bill is not to prevent India from coming to India, but who comes to follow the law of India.
Congress MP Manish Tiwari described it as unconstitutional. He says that this law can be used to prevent people disagreeing with the ideology of the government from entering India.
TMC MP Saugat Roy expressed concern that this tough law could become a major obstacle for international talents in India.
