The government has instructed the telecom service provider to block spoof calls.
The Home Ministry told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Cybercrime Coordination Center (i4C) has identified and blocked more than 3962 Skype IDs and 83,668 WhatsApp accounts involved in digital arrest cases. The Ministry of Home Affairs is a special wing to monitor cyber offenses.
Minister of State for Home Sanjay Bandhi Kumar gave this written information about Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Tiruchi Shiva. He said- Cyber criminals used these accounts to cheat by becoming officers of agencies like ED, CBI.
Apart from this, more than 7.81 lakh SIM cards and more than 2.08 lakh IMEI numbers have been blocked by February 28, 2025. At the same time, loss of more than Rs 4386 crore has been avoided on the basis of more than 13.36 lakh complaints.
System ready to identify spoof call The Minister of State for Home said that the Central Government and the Telecom Service Provider (TSP) have prepared a system to identify and block the international spoof calls.
In case of such calls, India has India’s number while the call is coming from abroad. TSP has been instructed to block such calls.
Apart from this, a toll-free helpline number 1930 has been started for complaints of cyber crime. Awareness collar tune is being broadcast in regional languages to increase awareness.
Loss of Rs 4.69 lakh crore in 10 years A report by the Reserve Bank shows that during 2023, there was a fraud of more than 30 thousand crore rupees in the country. At the same time, in the last 10 years, banks reported 65,017 cases of cyber fraud. In which there was a total loss of 4.69 lakh crore rupees.
Do not receive unknown video calls, take care Cyber experts believe that the use of WhatsApp in cybercrime has increased these days. We should be cautious on social media apps and WhatsApp and do not receive unknown video calls.
Keep Facebook, Instagram profiles private. Do not accept friend requests of unknown people. In most cases, cyber thugs gather information about people from these social site before the incident.
