The issue of CAG report on liquor policy issue before the assembly elections in Delhi has now reached the Delhi High Court. BJP MLAs filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to discuss the CAG report in the Assembly, on which the court reprimanded the Delhi government on Monday.
Delhi High Court Court said- The manner in which the Delhi Government has taken back its steps in considering the CAG report, raises doubts on its honesty. Delhi government should have immediately sent the CAG report to the Speaker and initiated a discussion in the House. The court said that it will hear the matter today at 2:30 pm.
In fact, on January 11, the CAG report regarding liquor policy in Delhi was leaked. In this, it was said that the government would suffer a revenue loss of Rs 2026 crore. The report states that there were many irregularities in the liquor policy, including deficiencies in licensing. Along with this, AAP leaders were allegedly benefited through bribes.
The new liquor policy was implemented in Delhi in 2021. Many questions were raised regarding license allocation. The policy had to be withdrawn. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia were accused of corruption. Both also went to jail. Had to leave the post of CM and Deputy CM. Currently out on bail.

What in the CAG report…
- The AAP government neither took cabinet approval nor sought opinion from the Lieutenant Governor in its decision to cancel the new liquor policy.
- Due to Covid restrictions, exemption of Rs 144 crore as license fee for January 2022 was given to retail license holders without taking Cabinet approval.
- Wards in which liquor was not allowed. Liquor shop licenses were distributed there also. This decision was also taken without the approval of the Lieutenant Governor.
- The group of ministers headed by the Deputy Chief Minister had rejected the suggestions of the expert panel. The cabinet had approved the policy and on many important decisions the approval of the then Lieutenant Governor was not even taken.
- According to the report, despite the complaints, everyone was given permission to bid for the auction. Those who had incurred losses were also given licenses or renewed. The CAG report is yet to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly.
On December 21, LG gave permission to prosecute Kejriwal On December 21, Delhi LG VK Saxena had given permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy matter. On December 5, ED had sought permission from LG to conduct trial against Kejriwal.
ED had registered a case against the former Chief Minister under Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) in March this year. Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 after 4 hours of interrogation. Kejriwal got bail in this case, but ED could not start the trial.
