The incident of rape and gang rape of a girl from Dalit community in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala for the last 5 years has shocked the entire country. The girl has alleged in her complaint that since the age of 13, 62 people have raped her. So far 44 accused have been arrested in this case. The victim girl is an athlete, who was also gang-raped at least 5 times.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate this matter. This team is headed by Deputy SP PS Nandakumar, while the investigation is being supervised by DIG S Ajita Begum herself. The DIG told That till now 30 FIRs have been registered in this case. Of the 58 accused who have been identified in this case, 44 have been arrested. arrested has been carried out.
DIG S Ajita Begum said, “The two accused have fled abroad. The process of issuing lookout circular and red corner notice against him is underway. The search for the remaining 13 accused is ongoing. We will conduct a scientific and accurate investigation and no culprit will be spared.”

According to the police, the victim told that her exploitation started at the age of 13. Many of the accused met her at a private bus stand in Pathanamthitta and took her to different places and sexually assaulted her.
The victim said that she was gang-raped at least five times. One of these incidents took place inside a car, while another incident took place inside the General Hospital in Pathanamthitta in January 2024.
In the same sequence, in the year 2023, when she was studying in class 12th, a young man connected with her through Instagram took her to a rubber plantation in Ranni and gang-raped her along with three other people.
During investigation, the police came to know that the victim did not use any mobile phone of her own. She used to talk through her father’s phone. In this phone, the victim has saved the numbers of 40 accused who sexually exploited her. The saddest part was that the victim’s coach and trainer also got involved in this crime. In the recorded statement, the victim has also given the names of some of her relatives who were involved in her sexual exploitation.
Police said that a team of more than 30 officers, including women policemen, has been formed to investigate the matter. DIG Ajita Begum said, “More officers will be included in this team after the Sabarimala Yatra is over. All the culprits will be brought to justice.”
