South African bowler Enrique Nortya out of Champions Trophy: Has back injury; Got a place in the team 2 days ago

Enrique Nortya played his last international match on June 29 in the T-20 match against India.

South African fast bowler Enrique Nortya has been ruled out of the Champions Trophy starting on 19 February. He has a back injury. Cricket South Africa on Wednesday informed Nortya of his exit from the ICC tournament.

The board wrote- ‘We came to know about the seriousness of Nortya’s injury from the scan report done on Monday. He is not expected to recover in time. The board will soon announce the name of his replacement. Nortya had made a comeback to the South African team two days ago on 13 January.

Nortya was also selected for the Pakistan tour, but his toe was broken by a yorker from David Miller during a net session. He has struggled with injuries in the last domestic and international seasons. Nortya played his last international match on June 29 in a T-20 match against India.

Pakistan will also face South Africa in the Champions Trophy. They have been placed in Group B along with Afghanistan, Australia and England.
