HighLights
- 180 cases came to SCI in one year
- 51 percent of these children are suffering from blood cancer.
- Patients come here from many districts of Central India
Alok Banerjee, Jabalpur. During the last one year, 180 cancer suffering children were admitted to the State Cancer Institute (SCI) of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur. Among them, most were suffering from blood cancer.
Blood cancer was found in about 51 percent i.e. 92 children. Some of these were at high risk, but due to better treatment, it was possible to avoid serious danger. Also, other types of cancer were identified in the remaining children.
Cases of advanced disease were seen in some children, in which neuroblastoma tumor is prominent. Cancer patients not only from Mahakoshal but from all the districts of Central India come to the State Cancer Institute for treatment. Here they are getting the benefit of free treatment.
Most of the children are in critical condition
Most children with cancer who come to SCI come to SCI in critical situations. Before that, their relatives take these cancer suffering children to local hospitals for treatment.
If the case worsens then they can reach SCI. In many cases the possibility of delay is strong. More than 300 patients come to SCI’s OPD every day for treatment.
In many cases of older age, symptoms of stage one or two cancer are revealed during examination. It is easier to cure the patient in this stage.
There is no stage of blood cancer
- In the last year 2024, 180 children suffering from cancer and their relatives reached SCI. Of these, blood cancer was diagnosed in 92 children. Apart from this, there were also children suffering from advanced disease, brain tumor and other types of cancer.
- Last year, children aged between six months to 19 years had come for treatment at SCI. It is important that blood cancer is a disease which has no stage. It is important to be at high risk or out of risk.
Case-1: Namami has blood cancer and also a hole in the heart.
Sagar’s one and a half year old Namami is suffering from blood cancer and also a hole in his heart. He was having trouble breathing because of the hole. After treatment at many places, the relatives took him to the State Cancer Institute. He was at high risk then, but with six months of regular treatment, doctors have brought him out of high risk.
Interestingly, till date no one in Namami’s parents or lineage had suffered from a similar disease. Namami is an example for the children of his age that after suffering from a serious disease, he is gradually recovering and is also cooperating with the doctors and nurse staff in the treatment.
