The first match of the 2-match Test series between Pakistan and West Indies is being played at the Multan Cricket Stadium from January 16, in which the first day’s play started quite late due to heavy fog on the field. After winning the toss, host Pakistan scored 143 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 41.3 overs in the first day’s play. In this match, a record was registered in the name of West Indies spin bowler Gudakesh Moti which had never been seen before in the history of West Indies cricket. Gudakesh Moti bowled a total of 14 overs in the first day’s play and took one wicket while conceding 45 runs.

Moti became the first player to bowl the first over in Test for West Indies as a spinner.

When Pakistan team decided to bat first in the Multan Test, West Indies team captain Craig Brathwaite decided to open the bowling with spinner Gudakesh Moti. With this, Gudakesh became the first spinner in the history of West Indies Test cricket who started bowling in the first over of the innings. Earlier, in Test cricket for the West Indies team, the spinners had bowled the first over but it was in the third or fourth innings. Before this, West Indies had never taken such a decision in the 582 Test matches played. Moti also proved Captain Brathwaite right when he showed the way to the pavilion to Pakistani captain Shan Masood in the 9th over of the innings itself. This has been seen only for the fourth time in the last 12 years when a spinner bowled the first over of the beginning of a Test match. Earlier in the year 2024, Sajid Khan had done this against England in the Rawalpindi Test match, while in the year 2019, Taijul Islam bowled the first over in the Chattogram Test against Afghanistan, while in the year 2018, Mehdi Hasan Miraz bowled the first over in the Mirpur Test against Sri Lanka. The over was bowled.

Saud Shakeel and Rizwan took over the innings of Pakistani team

After winning the toss, the Pakistani team came to bat first and lost the wickets of captain Shan Masood, Babar Azam, Muhammad Huraira and Kamran Ghulam till the score of 46. After this, Saud Shakeel and wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan took charge of the Pakistani team’s innings and took it to 143 runs at the end of the first day’s play. While Shakeel was unbeaten on 56 runs, Rizwan was playing on 51 runs. So far in bowling for West Indies, Jayden Seales has taken 3 wickets while Gudakesh Moti has taken one wicket.
