CBI arrested one of its own Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Balbir Sharma in the scholarship scam of Himachal Pradesh. The case pertains to bribery related to the Assistant Director of ED who demanded bribe from the educational institute of the state.

Officials gave this information on Tuesday. DSP Sharma was posted in the Special Crime Unit of CBI in Delhi. The agency had called him to its Chandigarh office on Monday for questioning in this matter.

Officials said that in the case, ED Assistant Director Vishal Deep was arrested on charges of demanding bribe. While Sharma was arrested on Monday evening. Sharma was produced in the court on Tuesday.

CBI has so far arrested seven people including the Assistant Director of ED in this case. It is alleged that Vishal Deep had demanded a bribe of Rs 1.1 crore from Rajneesh Bansal, Chairman of Himalayan Group of Professional Institutions, in exchange for not arresting him in a money laundering case. Later the amount was reduced to Rs 60 lakh.
