Ranji Trophy: Stars on the ground in Ranji, Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, Rishabh Pant all flopped, see everyone’s performance

Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant Flop Show: In the sixth round of Ranji Trophy, Indian Test team’s star players captain Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill will join their respective state teams. Curiosity had increased because of this. The arrival of the star quartet playing in the Ranji Trophy comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made it mandatory for international players to participate in domestic cricket under its new policy.

But on the first day of the second phase of the competition, all four were out on single digit scores. At the MCA Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy ground in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex, Rohit’s much-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy after ten years was short-lived, ending on just 19 balls as he was dismissed by Jammu and Kashmir fast bowler Umar Nazir. Out on three runs.

Nazir bowled with discipline and accuracy, continuously troubling Rohit with maidens and then bowled a length delivery outside the off side, which took away Rohit’s leading edge and he went to pull and was caught at extra cover. This dismissal continued Rohit’s poor run in red-ball cricket, as he has averaged only 10.93 in the 2024/25 Test season for India.

On the other hand, Jaiswal became the victim of Auqib Nabi after scoring four runs, who took full advantage of the morning shock and trapped the left-handed batsman LBW on a fast ball. Opening for Punjab in Bengaluru, Gill was out for four runs off eight balls when he was caught by Karnataka pacer Abhilash Shetty, leaving the visitors bowled out for just 55 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Playing his first Ranji Trophy match since December 2017 at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C in Rajkot, Pant had a short stay at the crease as he scored just one run in 10 balls for Delhi against Saurashtra. While trying to sweep the ball of Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Pant lost his balance and was caught out at deep square leg.

However, there was some excitement in the bowling as Ravindra Jadeja took 5 wickets for 66 runs in 17.4 overs, helping Saurashtra bowl out Delhi for 188 runs. The quartet of Rohit, Jaiswal, Pant and Gill will have a chance to prove themselves while batting in the second innings of their respective teams.
