Congress, Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray are continuously targeting Adani Group regarding the redevelopment plan of Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum located in Mumbai. But, Sharad Pawar, who is part of ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ along with Congress and Uddhav Thackeray faction in Maharashtra, does not consider this an issue. Sharad Pawar said, “When the meeting was held for the re-development project of Dharavi, Adani Group was not interested in it. Negotiations and discussions were not held with Adani Group.” After this statement of Sharad Pawar, BJP’s IT cell head Amit Malviya has hit back at Congress and Uddhav Thackeray.
In an interview with a digital media platform, Sharad Pawar said, “Dharavi is not an issue at all. Adani Group is being targeted. When a meeting was held for the re-development project of Dharavi, Gautam Adani was not interested in it.” Even the Dharavi project was given to some other company. Of course, there were some negotiations and discussions with Adani Group.
What did BJP’s IT cell head say?
Amit Malviya, while sharing the video of Sharad Pawar’s statement on social media platform X, has targeted Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray. Amit Malviya said, “Now even Sharad Pawar has rejected the statements given by Rahul Gandhi and Uddhav Thackeray regarding Adani. Sharad Pawar also said that Adani Group was not interested in the Dharavi re-development project. “
Malviya says, “Just before the Maharashtra Assembly elections, such a statement by a senior politician of the MVA camp is shameful for the alliance.” He said, “Uddhav Thackeray and Rahul Gandhi are continuously spreading lies to mislead Mumbai and Maharashtra. It was the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA that had struck a deal with the Adani Group for the Dharavi re-development project.”
What is Dharavi Project?
This slum, established during the British era, is today the largest slum in Asia and the third largest in the world. In 1999, when there was a coalition government of BJP and Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, a proposal to redevelop Dharavi was made for the first time. After this, in 2003-2004, the Maharashtra government came up with the re-development plan of Dharavi. It was decided to redevelop Dharavi as an integrated planned township and tenders were floated for the project.
Government canceled all tenders in 2011
However, in 2011 the government canceled all the tenders. The bid for this project was canceled by the Uddhav Thackeray government in the year 2019. After this, the government changed in Maharashtra and Eknath Shinde formed the government with BJP. Later Ajit Pawar also joined it. After this a master plan was prepared for Dharavi. In 2022, Shinde government issued new tenders in October 2022.
Adani Group won the bid in 2022
On 29 November 2022, ‘Adani Properties’ won the bid for the project to redevelop Dharavi slum. Adani Group had made a bid of Rs 5,069 crore. DLF Group was the second bidder for the Dharavi project, which had bid Rs 2,025 crore.
The project is worth Rs 20 thousand crores
Adani Group and Maharashtra Government are working as a joint venture for the re-development of Dharavi spread over 640 acres in Mumbai. Dharavi Redevelopment Project is worth Rs 20 thousand crores. The target is to settle the people living here in permanent houses in 7 years. This entire project will cover more than 1 crore square feet of land. Additional funds are being used for counting and detailed survey of tenements in Dharavi, which is expected to be completed by March 2025.
