Maharashtra Jharkhand Exit Polls: Voting will end today for the second and last phase of by-elections in Maharashtra as well as Jharkhand. Exit polls will start coming soon after this. Everyone keeps an eye on these exit polls and it should be so in a democracy, but considering them accurate and assuming that the results will be 100% similar is becoming fatal for democracy. Most of the political parties, after showing lead in the exit polls, blame their defeat on the Election Commission. Now the thing to understand is that neither the Election Commission conducts exit polls nor does it make people vote for any party. His responsibility is to conduct elections in a fair manner and to count the public votes and tell how many votes each party got. However, despite knowing everything, the Election Commission is the target of such parties. After all, what is the secret in exit polls… know here..
What did the Chief Election Commissioner say?
When Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar came before the media to announce the Jharkhand and Maharashtra assembly elections, someone asked him a question regarding the exit poll. Just then Rajiv Kumar exposed the exit polls and the political parties raising questions. He said, “Actually I wanted to avoid this question but since you have asked, then know that due to the arrival of exit polls, an expectation is set. This is creating a huge distortion. This is for the press. And especially for the electronic media, two-three things are happening together in the last few elections. It is important for everyone to understand that we do not govern the exit poll, but there is a need to introspect that what was the sample size of the exit poll? How did the exit poll result? So what is my responsibility? Is there any disclosure? All this needs to be seen.”
How ahead of time?
Rajiv Kumar further said, “There is another topic related to this which is very important. Counting takes place on the third day of the day the polling ends. So after the exit polls came out from 6 pm today, an expectation rose. Everyone thought that this is going to happen, for which there is no scientific basis or disclosure in public, from 8:05 minutes and 8:10 minutes. Results start coming, my first counting starts at 8:30 and we have proof that every time till 8:05, 8:10, 8:15, this much lead, this much lead starts. This much lead, this much lead. How does this happen?”
“Even before the first round is counted…”
Chief Election Commissioner said, “To justify the exit poll, it is said that trends have emerged. If we said so in the exit poll, then the trend is happening accordingly. Whatever will happen later, will happen. The truth is that 8: When the counting starts at 9:10, it takes one round at 9:15 or 9:20. Check it out at 9:30. We will post the first round at 11:30. It is also assumed that during the counting process the signatures of the observers have to be obtained. So it may take half an hour to reach the official site, but how can the picture of the first round be cleared before 9 o’clock. Till then the expectations of the exit polls are shown on TV. When the actual results start coming, there is a mismatch and then the phase of confusion and allegations begins. This is a subject on which we cannot do anything. Our hands are tied, but I know there will be brainstorming on this. Whenever there is some problem in our country, it is discussed and a solution is found.”
