Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, has claimed that she and her mother have been placed under house arrest. The authorities have locks their doors. Iltija has shared a photo of the locks on the closed doors of the house on social media x.
Iltija claimed the house arrest and wrote- Nothing has changed in Kashmir even after the election. Now comforting the families of the victims is also considered a crime.

Mehbooba Mufti wrote in a post- 25-year-old Makhan Deen, a resident of Perodi, was detained by the SHO of Bilawar on a false charge of being an over ground worker (OGW). He was beaten up badly, tortured. Forcibly confessed, which led to his death. The area is sealed. Internet is closed. This causes panic among people.
He informed- continuous action is being taken. People are being taken into custody. This incident seems to be a part of the pattern of harassing innocent youths in false charges.
Iltija had also said in a statement- small boys are being raised in Kulgam, Budgam, Ganderbal. I want to ask the government if they are all terrorists. Why are everyone looking at everyone with suspicion. Surprisingly, not a single minister made any statement about this. Do you have yogurt in your mouth?
Mehbooba was under house arrest on these 5 occasions in 6 years
- August 5, 2019: Mehbooba Mufti was detained along with other prominent leaders after being removed from Jammu and Kashmir.
- 7 September 2021: Mehbooba claimed that she was under house arrest when she was planning to go to the party headquarters. He termed the claims of the center of the state to be normal in the state as fake.
- 18 November 2021: Mehbooba Mufti was under house arrest after protests against the death of citizens in Hyderpora encounter.
- 11 October 2023: During the visit of President Draupadi Murmu to Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba alleged that he was not allowed to go out of his house.
- 13 July 2024: Mehbooba claimed that he was under house arrest on the occasion of ‘Martyr’s Day’ from going to Mazar-e-Shuhada.
Iltija contested for the first time, but lost
Iltija contested the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections in October 2024 from Srigufwara-Bizbehra seat. This seat is considered to be the traditional stronghold of the Mufti family. However, Iltija lost by 9,770 votes in this election. In 2019, after the removal of Article 370, when his mother Mehbooba Mufti was detained, Iltija launched a campaign for his release, causing them to make headlines.
