New Delhi:
India Canada relation: The tension which had been going on for a long time in the relations between India and Canada is now likely to reduce. While the Justin Trudeau government of Canada was continuously making all kinds of misleading allegations against the ministers of the Indian government and people holding important positions, now the Canadian official has said about these allegations that it is ‘speculative and wrong’. Are. Ever since such allegations were being made by Canada’s minority government, India had been strongly opposing it. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar was continuously responding vociferously to Canada’s allegations from many forums. After India clearly denied the allegations and then continuous evidence was demanded from Canada. India had refused to take any action on the allegations as Canada never provided any evidence.
Canada admitted its mistake after a year
Now, almost a year later, the Canadian government has issued a statement clarifying that no evidence has been found linking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Foreign Minister Jaishankar or NSA Ajit Doval to serious criminal activity within Canada. This clarification from the Trudeau government comes after a report published in a Canadian newspaper claimed that the alleged conspiracy to murder Nijjar was hatched by top leaders of India. Overall, it can be said that after a year of making the allegations, he has accepted his mistake.
Canada was criticized many times
Apart from this, Canada was also criticized many times in international forums, after which Canada had to come on the back foot. Once, PM Trudeau himself found it difficult to answer the question of evidence. It is a different matter that earlier there was a lot of pressure on the government running in Canada with the support of Khalistani leader and NDP MP Jagmeet Singh. But now the government is in minority. Jagmeet Singh has withdrawn support.
Serious allegations made against Amit Shah
Last month, Canada crossed the limits when it alleged that Indian Home Minister Amit Shah was involved in violence against Khalistani supporters in Canada. Canada alleged that Shah had given instructions regarding violence, intimidation and intelligence gathering against Sikh separatists in Canada. Then India has described the comments made by Canada’s Deputy Foreign Minister David Morrison as absurd and baseless. The Ministry of External Affairs had officially lodged a protest with the Government of Canada regarding these allegations.
India gave a befitting reply every time
India had said in response that Canadian officials are working on a strategy to reduce India’s credibility on the global stage by giving non-authentic claims to the international media. Along with this, India said that the Canadian government is conducting surveillance of the Indian consular officers posted there. Apart from this, Canada’s spy agency Communication Security Establishment (CSE) had included India in the list of threatening countries. This was the first time that India’s name appeared in this list of the Government of Canada. Let us tell you that this list contains the names of the countries that will pose a threat in 2025-26. In this, India was placed at fifth position after China, Russia, Iran and North Korea. It said that the Indian government is preparing modern cyber programs, which pose a threat to Canada at many levels.
what was the case of nijjar
Recall that in June 2023, pro-Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was shot dead outside a Gurudwara. Till date it is not clear who committed this murder. Since then, the Canadian government had alleged that Indian government officials had a hand in this murder. It is noteworthy that terrorist Nijjar used to work for Pakistan’s ISI. India had repeatedly demanded Nijjar’s extradition, which Canada refused. Canada had also given citizenship to Nijjar. Terrorist Nijjar was a Khalistani supporter. He was the chief of Khalistan Tiger Force. For the last several years, he was living in Canada and carrying out his activities. In India, the Home Ministry had declared Hardeep Singh Nijjar a terrorist in 2020. An FIR was registered against him in connection with the bomb blast outside a temple in Patiala in 2010. The police was looking for him in many cases including inciting violence and promoting terrorist activities.
India surrounded in case of attack on Hindus
India gave a strong response to Canada on every platform and every occasion, which Canada could not have even imagined. Even after Hindu programs were canceled at many places in Canada on the occasion of Diwali, the Indian government surrounded the Canadian government. Also raised objection to the Canadian government regarding the continuous attacks on Hindus in Canada and the attacks on Hindu religious places.
PM Modi himself condemned the attack
After the attack on Hindu temple in Canada, PM Narendra Modi himself had condemned it. Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on Such acts of violence will never weaken India’s resolve. We expect the Government of Canada to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.
Canada had to be embarrassed many times due to the attacks made towards India and demanding answers, which brought a lot of shame to the Trudeau government.
Trudeau’s clarification
Recently, while addressing an event during Diwali, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau had admitted that many people in Canada are Khalistani supporters but not all. It is noteworthy that for years, India has been continuously requesting Canada to take action against Khalistani supporters and militants present on its soil, but Canada had clearly refused this. Canada has always said that supporting Khalistan falls within the people’s right to freedom of expression and their government cannot act on it. Let us remind you that anti-India programs have been taking place on Canadian soil. The extent can be seen when a tableau is made in Canada on the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and despite India’s protest, Canada does not take any action.
It is noteworthy that in September 2023, there was a lot of tension in the relations between the two countries when Trudeau’s government accused the role of Indian agents in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. After this incident, there was a long series of statements between the two countries.
Embassy camps were affected
Meanwhile, the Indian Consulate has canceled the scheduled consular camps in Canada due to inadequate security arrangements. Let us tell you that Canadian security agencies had informed the Indian Consulate officials that they were not able to provide minimum security to the organizers of the camp. One of these camps was to be in Greater Toronto, where more than 4,000 Indian and Canadian senior citizens are not getting the necessary consular services.
Let us tell you that consular camps are organized in Canada by the Indian Consulate, which includes the High Commission in Ottawa, Vancouver and the Consulate in Toronto. This camp is organized to provide various services like life certificate to Indian citizens.
Diplomatic tension still continues between India and Canada. It is possible that after the change in Canada’s stance, a period of improvement in relations will begin, but this will have to wait for some time.
