After all, how long will Rohit Sharma-Virat Kohli play ODI cricket? Dilip Vengsarkar gave a shocking answer

Dilip vengsarkar statement on rohit sharma and virat kohli retirement speeds: During the Champions Trophy, Rohit Sharma’s retirement ‘unnecessary’ speculation disappointed former captain Dilip Vengsarkar as he believes that great players like the current Indian captain should get time to decide on their future. After giving India the second title of International Cricket Council (ICC) in nine months, Rohit himself rejected all speculation about his future and said that he was not retiring from ODI format. Rohit, a thirty -seven -year -old Rohit, has not yet committed for the 2027 ODI World Cup, but Vengsarkar believes that his presence will be good for the team.

Vengsarkar spoke on the news of Rohit-Kohli’s retirement

Vengsarkar told PTI, “I am not an astrologer. A lot of matches will be held till 2027 World Cup. A lot will depend on his form and fitness. It is not appropriate to say anything at this time but he has been fantastic as both captain and player.” He said, “I don’t know why people (on their retirement) speculated, it is unnecessary. A player like him should have the right to decide about his future.”

Rohit played impressive innings under challenging circumstances to bat in both T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy. In Dubai, he ensured that India took maximum advantage of Powerplay, especially while chasing the target under extreme pressure against New Zealand in the final. Vengsarkar said, “The way he is playing at this time is fantastic. He has scored three double centuries in ODI cricket. What else can I say about him.”

The former chief selector said, “The players of Virat and Rohit are players of a big match, the bigger the platform will be, the better it is. It is very important from the team’s point of view. Their presence is the morale of the opposition team.”

The Champions Trophy for Rohit was going to change luck as he had to be ruled out of the final Test in Sydney due to long -term poor form. Players like Shreyas Iyer and Lokesh Rahul on Dubai’s slow pitches contributed significantly to India’s title win.

Vengsarkar is happy with Iyer’s performance in the middle order

Iyer proved his importance in the team after winning the IPL and at the same time with an ups and downs with the central contract. Vengsarkar is very happy with the performance of this middle order batsman.

Vegasarkar said, “Iyer performed very well but I am not happy with the way he was out in the finals. He should have played till the end and finish the match. But he was happy to see his ability realized.”

He said, “Lokesh Rahul also played some important innings at number six but still I do not believe Akshar Patel to bat at number five beyond him. The combination of left hand can be the only reason.”

Vengsarkar also credited the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar. He said, “The credit should also go to the selectors. He retained Rohit after the Australia series. Even the decision to take five spinners in the team proved to be a master stroke.”
