Former Indian team all -rounder Syed Abid Ali died on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. He was 83 years old. Abid was included in the group of magnificent cricketers from Hyderabad, which was part of MAK Pataudi, ML Jaisimha and Abbas Ali Baig. He died in America. The news of his death was shared by the North America Cricket League (NACL). He played 34 Tests and 5 ODIs for India. He was rich in versatility.

Made debut in Test cricket for India in 1967

For India, Abid Ali made his Test cricket debut against Australia in December 1967 and took six wickets for 55 runs in the first innings. In the same series, he also played innings of 78 and 81 runs in the Sydney Test, showing his potential in batting. Abid Ali played 29 Tests for India between 1967 and 1974 in which he scored 1018 runs and took 47 wickets. He was identified for a fast race among wickets and was one of the best fielders of his time. He started both batting and bowling for India in several matches. He did this twice against New Zealand in 1968, three times on home ground in 1969 and twice on a tour of West Indies in 1971.

Abid Ali was part of the Indian team led by Ajit Wadekar who played his first ODI against England in 1974 in Headingley. It was a 55 -over match in which India lost. Apart from this, he was also part of the team in the first ODI World Cup held in 1975. He then played a total of three matches.

More than 8 thousand runs scored in domestic cricket

His record in first class cricket was better than international cricket. He played a total of 212 first class matches, scoring 8,732 runs. Which includes the highest score of 173 not out. He also took 397 wickets with the best performance of six wickets for 23 runs.
