We are the fourth generation, who are handling this business.

Kalp says- Two things are used mainly in making colors, herbal color and starch. Raw color we get from many cities of Gujarat including Ahmedabad, Surat. While starch becomes available at the local level. The process of making color starts about 3 months before Holi.

There is currently 15 types of gulal in Brijesh Gupta’s factory. Brijesh Gupta’s son Harsh Gupta says- On Holi we make about 100 tonnes of Gulal. Harsh Gupta explained the entire process of making us Gulal. He told that fine powder is prepared by mixing maize flour and arrowroot. After this, herbal colors are mixed in that powder through machine. These colors are dried in the sun for about 8 days. Gulal packing is then packed with packet of 80 grams to 25 kg pack. Essences like Rose, Lavender, Mogra and Jasmine are added to Gulal for fragrance.

What is starch? The thing that is most commonly used in making Gulal is starch. Starch is a white, granulated, organic chemical, which originates from a variety of green plant. Starch is a soft, white, tasteless powder.

In Hathras and the surrounding area, the most maize crop comes out. About 2 percent colors are added to starch. Apart from flowers, these color are also colorful. With which many types of colors including Gulal are prepared.
