The ruling Telugu Desam Party of Chandrababu Naidu claims about this mansion located in Rushikonda that it was initially built as a camp office for Reddy. It has gold decorations, Italian marble floors and luxurious decorations, gleaming chandeliers, bathtubs.

Its shocking infrastructure also includes paved roads and drainage system, wholesale water supply and 100 kV power substation. Like Delhi, the new government of Andhra Pradesh is also confused about how this building can be used.

The TDP claims that the project was introduced in various stages of its development in various avatars – a star hotel, then a Chief Minister’s camp office and then a tourist project. While it was approved by CRZ (coastal regulatory area) from the central government in May 2021, there are allegations that half of the Rushikonda hill has been demolished for its construction.

Before the Chief Minister was introduced as a camp office, it was launched as a star hotel with a budget of Rs 91 crore. TDP has claimed that by its completion, the total cost has exceeded Rs 500 crore. Chief Minister Naidu has now called for a debate on the use of the building and has opened it to the public.

He said, “This is a case study of how the former Chief Minister cheated the courts, violated environment and misused public money to live a spectacular life. There is a need to discuss the existence of such leaders in politics, and do we really need them.”

Chandrababu Naidu said, “So far, I have no information about how to use buildings and how the government will get revenue from them. These structures are not viable for the tourism department. A decision will be taken soon.”

In the recent Delhi elections, the BJP raised the issue of making it a Sheeshamahal and after that Kejriwal’s party had to face a tough defeat. According to the information, Rs 33 crore was spent in its renovation, while the initial estimate was that it would cost Rs 7.9 crore. But according to the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, there was a huge increase in the cost when its decoration is taken into consideration.

BJP’s Virendra Sachdeva has claimed that, “If the list of goods in the bungalow is considered, the actual cost reaches Rs 75-80 crore.”
