Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has condemned the decision to remove the ‘₹’ icon from the budget of Tamil Nadu government. He has said that this step is going to increase the spirit of separatism. The Finance Minister has also raised questions on the timing of this decision of the Stalin government. At the same time, Tamil Professor D Uday Kumar, who designed the ‘₹’ mark, has expressed surprise on this controversy.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has expressed her opinion on X (first Twitter) regarding this move of Tamil Nadu. He has asked that the DMK government has now removed ‘₹’ but why it did not raise questions in 2010 when it was adopted by the Central Government of the Congress. The Finance Minister said that DMK was also part of this government.

He said, “₹ mark former DMK MLA N. Was designed by Udayakumar, son of Dharmalingam. Now by removing it, DMK is not only rejecting a national symbol, but is also completely ignoring the work of a youth of Tamil Nadu. ”
Finance Minister Sitharaman has said that the word rupee has come from Sanskrit and the word has been used in Tamil culture for a long time. He gave examples of many countries, including Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Mauritius, where the rupee or the word similar is used for the name of the currency.
He described it as a common heritage of South Asia. The DMK government has been accused of weakening the integrity of the nation by removing the ‘₹’ mark. He has said that this step is going to incite the spirit of isolation and it threatens the unity of the country.
The same ‘₹’ mark Design Dr. Uday Kumar Dharmalingam, who has done, has expressed surprise at this entire controversy. He himself hails from Tamil Nadu and is the son of a former DMK MLA. Currently Dharmalingam is a professor in IIT Guwahati. He has said that such a dispute ever Imagination Did not do it.
Dharmalingam designed ‘₹’ in 2010. The then UPA government had organized a competition for this. More than 3300 people took part in it. The design of Dharmalingam was approved from among them. On this move of the DMK government, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai has said that Udayakumar’s design was appreciated by Stalin’s father Karunanidhi but his sons are now denying it. He described it as an insult to the son of Tamil Nadu.
