A video went viral on social media on Thursday (13 March 2025) on the occasion of Holi in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. In this video, some Hindu people were seen with a wooden stem near the mosque gate. Regarding this, Mohammad Zubair, Asaduddin Owaisi and some Islamic groups claimed that Hindus attacked the mosque. Everything happened during the celebration of Holi.
While sharing this video, Mohammad Zubair of Alttenus wrote, “This embarrassing video has come out of Rajapur town in Maharashtra, in which you can see that during Holi, people reached the mosque with Shimga (piece of wood) and tried to insert it to 3-4 feet in the gate, that too twice. Some people and police tried to stop, but did not succeed. ” He also said that the national media always ignores or justifies such things.

After all this, Asaduddin Owaisi tweeted and asked if the law would make its own way. He said that the attack on the mosque in front of the police is shameful.

On social media, Islamic fundamentalists made a stir that a crowd of Hindus targeted the mosque and this is a proof of oppression on Muslims.
Ratnagiri police dismissed rumors spread on social media
However, the Ratnagiri police rejected all these things clearly. Police said that there was no talk of forcibly entering the mosque, as was being said on social media. The one who first put this wrong video, that post has now been removed. Yes, some people are still spreading wrong things, but the police did not say anything on it. Police said that all this was part of the old tradition of Konkan area, nothing went wrong.
‘The Hindu’ newspaper report UnderAll this happened at Jawahar Chowk at 7:30 pm on Wednesday evening. There was a procession of Shimga, which consists of a ritual called ‘Madachi Miravanuk’. The procession starts from Sakhalkarwadi to Dhopeshwar Temple, 2 km away from Sakhalkarwadi. On the way, wooden bundles (tree stem) are placed on the stairs of the mosque for some time. Police said that the traditions of Konkan are different.
SP Dhananjay Kulkarni said that in this ritual, the procession stops on the stairs of the mosque and the wood is touched from the gate. Muslim people welcome it by giving coconut. There was some slogans and uproar that night, for which FIR took place under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. Investigation is going on. Things are peaceful.
The special thing is that ‘The Hindu’ wrote that the Muslims there also considered it a tradition. A local Muslim said that every five years this procession comes out at the time of Holi and stops on the stairs of the mosque. This is for worshiping Nina Devi. Yes, he also said that this time the wood was stunned in the gate, but the police called it wrong. The police made it clear that there was no attack, it was just a custom. There was an attempt to spread the wrong video, but the truth came out.
