New Zealand PM met PM Modi.
New Delhi: New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon arrived on a five -day visit to India on Sunday to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations. Luxon will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Modi on Monday and will attend the inaugural session of ‘Raisina Dialogue’ as the chief guest. Prior to the Modi-Luxon talks, the two countries announced to launch talks for a wide and mutually beneficial India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
Detailed discussion on bilateral aspects
PM Modi and New Zealand’s PM Christopher met at Hyderabad House. After this, in the press meeting, PM Modi said that Luxon has been associated with India for a long time. We all saw the way he created the festive atmosphere by coloring in the colors of Holi. His attachment to people of India’s origin can also be seen in such a way that a community delegation has also come to India. It is a pleasure for us to be the chief guest of the Raisina dialogue. Today we discussed in detail our bilateral aspects. We have decided to strengthen our defense and safety partnership. A roadmap will also be made for mutual cooperation in the defense industry. Our navies are working together in the Indian Ocean. The New Zealand army ship is making a port call in Mumbai in two days.
Discussion on free trade agreement
It has been decided to negotiate a mutual beneficial free trade agreement between the two countries. This will boost mutual trade and investment potential. I am confident that the big delegation, which came to India with the Prime Minister, will get an opportunity to see and understand new possibilities in India. Whether it is cricket or hockey, or mountaineer, there are old relations in sports between the two countries. We have also emphasized cooperation in sports science, psychology and medicine. In 2026, it has been decided to celebrate 100 years of sports relations between the two countries. Emphasis will also be laid on increasing UPI connectivity, digital transactions, and tourism. We have old relations in the field of education. We invite New Zealand universities to open campus in India.
Both countries are unanimous against terrorism
We both are unanimous against terrorism. Whether it is Christ discussion terrorist attack on 15 March 2019 or the Mumbai attack of 26 November 2008, terrorism is unacceptable in any form. Strict action is necessary against the culprits of terrorist attacks. We are working together against terrorists, separatists and radical people. In this regard, we have shared our concern on protest activities by some illegal elements in New Zealance. We are confident that we will continue to get the cooperation of the New Zealand government against all these illegal elements. We both support free, open, secure and proclaimed Indo-Pacific. We believe in the policy of evolution, not in expansionism.
India told important countries
Let me tell you that shortly after reaching the national capital Delhi, the Prime Minister of New Zealand described India as a “very important” country for the prosperity, security and society of New Zealand. He wrote on ‘X’, “India provides a huge economic opportunity for the people of New Zealand. That is why I have come here and I have brought a senior delegation of business and community leaders with me. “A few days before the visit, the Prime Minister of New Zealand said that he would try to share a comprehensive economic partnership with India and seek ways to strengthen bilateral security relations.
Tour of India till 20 March
Union Minister S.K. at Delhi Airport P. Singh Baghel welcomed Luxon. The delegation with the Prime Minister of New Zealand includes ministers, MPs, veteran industrialists and some prominent people of the Indian community. Luxon as Prime Minister has come to India from 16 to 20 March on his first visit to India. Lakson said last week, “I want to make a more comprehensive economic partnership and see how we can pursue it.” He said, “I am committed that we will bring a big change in business relations with India.”
India important strength in the Indian region
The Prime Minister of New Zealand also described India as a “important” power in the Indo-Pacific region. Luxon stated that traveling with a business delegation will help increase business and business opportunities and will promote New Zealand as an investment destination. Luxon will also visit Mumbai from 19 to 20 March before returning to Wellington. (Input-PTI)
