Sweater knitting connect with travel
Weaving is not just a hobby for Sam Barsky, but it has become an integral part of his life. He has woven more than 150 sweaters in the last 18 years and he has taken pictures of about 100 of these sweets on the main tourist places of the world. From Times Square to Golden Gate Bridge and Israeli Western Wall to England’s Stonehenge, Sam’s sweaters show the beauty and historical significance of these places.
How did inspired
The inspiration behind this unique art is related to a life changing incident. In 1999, Sam left his nursing studies due to health issue. One day, after meeting the staff of a yarn store, Sam gave a new direction to weaving hobbies. Gradually this hobby turned into an art form and made it a part of his life.
Weaves not only the place, but also spirit in the sweater
Sam says that weaving is his entire work. He believes that it is very interesting to completely remove the specialty and feeling of a place in the sweater. They thread the nature, architecture, historical monuments and unique identity of every place in the sweater. For example, when they visit the Golden Gate Bridge, their sweater reflects the red structure of the bridge and when they go to the tilted minar of Pisa, their sweater includes the design of the tingling tower.
Sam believes that the association with every place is not limited to the physical aspects of that place, but also to feel the feelings and experience associated with it and present it in their art. Therefore, when Sam takes his photos, they not only show the physical form of that place, but also bring the memories and feelings associated with it.
Longterm goals and future sweaters
Sam’s Longstorm is large. They want his sweater collection to include Major Sites and Monuments of 50 states of America. Their purpose is to create a sweater, which contains famous monuments such as Liberty Bell, Grand Canyon, Space Needal, Mount Rashmore. Along with this, they also want to include Global Destination in their collection like Machu Pichu, Pisa’s tilted tower and Sydney Opera House. Sam told that it takes about a month to prepare every sweater and during this time they try to cover their deep understanding and respect towards the place in the threads of weaving.
Source of Struggle and Inspiration
Sam says that his journey of weaving is not only of art, but also an internal travel. When he decided to quit nursing, he faced many difficulties. But weaving not only gave him a mental grind, but also gave a new objective and direction. For Sam, weaving is more than a simple hobby. This is a way to connect themselves to the world and through this they feel the wonders and diversity of every place.
