Burke said that the video and photos revealed the fact that police officers opened fire, although they had previously denied doing so. When questions were raised over the administration’s action and videos started going viral, the officials tried to change their statements.
Samajwadi Party MP Zia ur Rehman Burke said on Thursday about the Sambhal violence that the people who have carried out this violence should also compensate for the loss. He said, “In the situation that arose in Sambhal, earlier there was a peaceful environment, where people of different religions lived together. But unfortunately, the administration showed haste in following an order, due to which the atmosphere became tense.
MP Zia ur Rehman Burke said that the court had ordered that some surveys be conducted and the administration implemented it very hastily and without adequate consideration. As a result of this decision, when people were trying to know why the survey was being conducted, they did not get a proper and accurate answer. Instead, they faced violence.” “Question marks arise on the functioning of the administration as they tried to resolve the matter without understanding and without maintaining peace,” he said. People were not given a chance to talk, rather they were put under pressure through violence.
The SP MP said that the fact has come to light through videos and photographs that police officers opened fire, whereas earlier they had denied doing so. He said, “When questions were raised on the administration’s action and videos started going viral, the officials tried to change their statements. They initially denied the firing and later described it as a mutual fight, which created further confusion. After this, the local officials said that if the public attacks us, we will also have to respond.”
He said, “This situation reflects the lack of trust in the society and dissatisfaction with the administration. After such incidents, people do not believe that they can solve their problems peacefully. Along with this, government and private property was also damaged, and it is the responsibility of the administration to compensate for the loss. If officials have violated the law, they should take responsibility for the damage caused.”
MP Zia ur Rehman Burke said, “Such incidents threaten to create unrest in the society and hence it is important that the government and administration exercise more sensitivity and vigilance in such situations. There is a need to take this issue to the Supreme Court, so that such incidents can be stopped and the environment of the state and the country becomes peaceful and prosperous.”
