With the beginning of the month of December, the countrymen have got another strong shock of inflation. According to the information released by Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), the prices of 19 kg LPG commercial gas cylinder have been increased from December 1, 2024. This increase has been made at the rate of Rs 16.50 per cylinder. With this, now the new price of these cylinders has become Rs 1818.50 in Delhi. Its impact will be seen entirely in commercial areas only, because there has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders, which are used by the common people.
Why does this trend of inflation continue?
This increase is taking place in the fifth month of 2024, when continuously rising inflation has affected the budget of the general public. Earlier in the month of October also, the price of 19 kg cylinder had increased from Rs 1740 to Rs 1801. In November it had increased to Rs 1818. Now even in December this cylinder has become costlier by Rs 16.50. This increase will particularly impact restaurants, hotels, cafes and other commercial establishments where these cylinders are used extensively.
Cylinder prices in Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai
The effect of this increase can also be seen in major cities of the country. In Kolkata, a 19 kg cylinder will now be available for Rs 1927, which was Rs 1865 in the month of November. In Mumbai this cylinder has become worth Rs 1771, while in Chennai its price has increased to Rs 1980.50. These rising prices have created an atmosphere of concern among business owners, as they are now likely to see their profits take a hit due to rising costs.
No change in the price of domestic gas cylinder
There has been no change in the prices of domestic LPG cylinders so far. The price of a non-subsidised 14.2 kg cylinder in Delhi is currently Rs 803. This cylinder is available to consumers at Rs 829 in Kolkata, Rs 802.50 in Mumbai and Rs 818.50 in Chennai. However, the question arises whether the prices of domestic gas cylinders may also increase in the coming months.
comparison with last year
If compared to last year, fluctuations in the prices of gas cylinders were seen in 2023 also. However, the inflation rate has touched a new high in 2024. The increase in crude oil prices in the international market and various changes made by the Government of India have affected the local gas prices. Especially since the global energy crisis and the Russia-Ukraine war have affected energy prices across the world, LPG prices have continued to rise in India as well.
impact on general public
What impact will this increase have on the general public? Especially for those running restaurants, cafes and other small businesses, the burden of inflation can be heavy. They may have to increase the prices of their services, which may further increase price concerns among consumers. At the same time, for domestic consumers, although there has been no change in the price of 14.2 kg cylinder, there are still signs of continuous increase in the prices, due to which the domestic gas prices may also increase in the coming time.
Responsibility of central government and oil companies
The central government and oil companies will also have to take responsibility for this continuous increase in gas prices. There is a need to consider measures to provide relief to the general public. If the government and oil companies do not take some concrete steps, the economic condition of common people can be seriously affected. Especially for those sections who are already struggling with inflation, such as small businessmen and lower-middle class families.
Tips for Consumers
At this time, consumers are advised to be cautious in the use of gas cylinders and avoid unnecessary expenses. Also, if possible, use appliances running on electricity other than alternative energy sources such as LPG. Due to which expenses can be cut to some extent.
This increase in the prices of gas cylinders in the month of December once again proves that the inflation crisis has become a challenge for the countrymen. Unless the government and oil companies make serious efforts on this issue, there is little possibility for the general public to get relief from this inflation.
