US State Department funds OCCRP

Ruling BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra claimed that certain elements in the US have colluded with a group of journalists and India’s opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to stall the wheels of India’s growth story with baseless allegations and malicious reports without any evidence. have tried. He said that all this is being done at the behest of the “US State Department”. Sambit Patra said that OCCRP (Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project) is receiving financial support from the US State Department and people associated with the “deep state” like billionaire George Soros. Patra alleged that the group was publishing baseless reports to tarnish the image of Prime Minister Modi and India. “We have evidence that OCCRP receives 50% of its funding from the US State Department.” He accused OCCRP of trying to weaken India through false and baseless allegations regarding the relationship between Adani Group and the government.

Cited French media report

The BJP spokesperson then cited a French media report which suggested that OCCRP was funded by the US Agency for International Development and “other deep states” such as George Soros. BJP said, ‘The clear objective of the deep state was to destabilize India by targeting Prime Minister Modi. Sambit Patra called Rahul Gandhi a “traitor” and raised questions on his foreign tours. Patra claimed that this “dangerous triangle” is challenging India’s stability.

Allegations against Rahul Gandhi in Parliament

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also made serious allegations against Rahul Gandhi and Congress in Parliament. He said that Congress is conspiring with foreign forces to destabilize the Indian government. “Congress will have to answer what conversations Rahul Gandhi had with those people abroad who run an anti-India agenda.” He accused Congress of “joining hands with anti-national forces out of hatred for PM Modi”.

Congress enraged

Congress described these allegations as “highly objectionable” and “against democratic processes”. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that Nishikant Dubey has violated parliamentary rules and he should apologise. “Such allegations in Parliament are not only unconstitutional, but also make a mockery of the country’s democracy.” He has demanded removal of Dubey’s statement from the record and action.

Statement from OCCRP

OCCRP acknowledged that it receives some funding from the US government, but insisted that its editorial independence remains intact. In its statement, OCCRP said, “The US government has no control over our reporting.” There has been no response yet from the US State Department on these allegations of BJP.
