New Delhi. There is doubt about Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma playing in the first test match against Australia. He will definitely go on tour with the team but may stay out of the Perth Test match due to personal reasons. In such a situation, the question arises that who will start the innings in his place. Three players are in the race to become the opening partner with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
A cricket fan keeps waiting for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. This time the series has become even more important for the Indian team. The crushing defeat in the Test series at home against New Zealand has made Team India’s path to the World Test Championship final difficult. India has to win 4 out of the 5-match Test series and there is doubt over captain Rohit Sharma’s performance in the opening match. There is news of his staying away due to personal reasons.
Who can replace Rohit Sharma?
There is doubt over Rohit Sharma playing in the first test match and the team management along with BCCI is aware of this. For this reason, Abhimanyu Easwaran has been selected as a backup opener for the tour. If Rohit does not play, he can be fielded with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Perth Test match. Even though he failed to score runs against Australia A, his recent performance in domestic cricket has been quite good. Abhimanyu will be the first choice of captain and coach.
KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli
Experienced batsman KL Rahul can also be a contender for opening in the Perth Test. He has been sent on Australia tour especially to play for India A. Although runs have not come from his bat, but considering his record on foreign soil, he can be selected for opening in place of Rohit Sharma.
If the Indian team wants to enter the first match of the Test series against Australia with an in-form batsman, then Shubman Gill can be given the responsibility of opening. In the last few series, he has started playing at number three, before this he used to open the innings. In the Perth Test, the team management can give this responsibility to Shubman along with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
