United Nations: On the occasion of World Meditation Day, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has once again stunned India in the United Nations. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar told the world the importance of meditation. He said that meditation has become a necessity for the whole world today. This is the mantra which transcends all religions, castes and sects and is supreme above all. This is necessary for everyone. The United Nations has acknowledged that on the initiative of PM Modi and India, 193 countries of the world have accepted December 21 as World Meditation Day.

Meditation transcends all religions and boundaries and is also a powerful tool of diplomacy in the current global scenario filled with rising conflicts and deep mistrust, prominent spiritual and UN leaders said on the occasion of the first ‘World Meditation Day’ here. India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations on Friday organized a special event titled ‘Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony’ to commemorate the first World Meditation Day at the headquarters of the global body. Spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said in his speech during the event, “Meditation is not a luxury today, but a necessity.” The event was attended by UN ambassadors, officials, staff, members of civil organizations and Indian- American expatriates attended in large numbers.

World Meditation Day on 21st December from now on

Earlier this month, the 193-member United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a resolution declaring December 21 as World Meditation Day. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support, said at the event that civilian and military personnel across the United Nations work tirelessly to address the world’s greatest challenges, often away from their families and countries, in high-risk environments and under high-risk conditions. They work under pressure which also affects their mental health. “On this Meditation Day, I want to encourage everyone to reaffirm their commitment to holistic mental health and to use available tools like meditation to seek inner transformation and peace,” he said at the United Nations.
