Allegations against Adani Group are complete American manipulation: Former Norwegian Minister Erik Solheim

New Delhi:

The allegations leveled by the US Department of Justice (DoJ) against Adani Group officials are nothing but “purely American manipulation”. After this is over, Adani Group will come forward even stronger. Norway’s former Environment Minister Erik Solheim said this to news agency IANS on Saturday.

According to the experienced Norwegian leader, if America has some complaints about Adani Group, then it should first go to the Indian government and bring it to their notice. Then it should not be taken to the American court, but to the Indian judicial system.

He stressed that such tactics (by the US) are harmful because Adani Group is an important vehicle for India’s green transformation.

“They have huge plans to set up solar and wind energy facilities and have big green investments in several Indian states and abroad,” Solheim said. The group also announced a $10 billion investment for energy security initiatives in the US. Such allegations will harm all of them.”

Adani Group has committed to invest $10 billion in American energy security and infrastructure projects. Its target is to create 15,000 local jobs in the country.

Solheim said the United States should change its authoritarian approach and instead consider the consequences of such meaningless actions. He said, “I am sure that Adani Group will come forward even stronger after this.”

Solheim, who has served as the executive director of the United Nations Environment Programme, said that the time has passed when Western countries like the US used to be the arbiters and judges of the world. He said, “This is a thing of the past. This has to stop.”

Meanwhile, US Attorney Brion Peace, who presented charges against Adani Group officials, has reportedly announced his resignation on January 10. A few days later, on January 20, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the next US President.

In November, the US Department of Justice had accused Adani Group officials of charges ranging from securities fraud to wire fraud.

Adani Group rejected these allegations emphatically. The group said this was a “malicious, mischievous and manipulative selection of publicly available information” aimed at “reaching preconceived conclusions for personal profiteering with disregard for facts and law”.
