IND vs AUS: A big decision may be taken regarding Rohit Sharma after the Sydney Test, Smith, Kohli’s argument is being given – report

BCCI Decision on Rohit Sharma After Border Gavaskar Trophy: The Indian team is behind 1-2 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the Test to be held in Sydney from January 3 is going to prove very important for India’s hopes of reaching the final of the World Test Championship. However, before the Sydney Test, the talk that is happening is about Rohit Sharma’s career.

Rohit Sharma is continuously flopping and for this he is facing criticism. Now there is news that BCCI is preparing to introduce ‘class’ of captain Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir after this series.

Before going on the Australia tour, the Indian team had to face a 0-3 defeat at home in the three-match series against New Zealand and this series defeat gave a big blow to India’s World Test Championship hopes. Questions were being raised since this series.

After India’s humiliating defeat by 184 runs in the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, some media reports claimed that Sydney could be the last Test of his Test career. Now another report has claimed that after the end of this series, BCCI may ask some tough questions to Indian captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir.

Rohit has been struggling for a long time in red ball cricket. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, he has scored only 31 runs in five innings. This follows a disappointing 91 runs in six innings during the last home series against New Zealand and just 42 runs in the home series against Bangladesh.

Overall, he has scored just 164 runs in 15 innings, which is an average of less than 11. If there was anyone else in place of Rohit Sharma, he would have been dropped from the team after such a disappointing performance.

According to the report of Cricbuzz, the situation with Rohit is like an elephant in the room. It is not that people sitting in high positions are not seeing anything or that they are unaware of what is happening, but they are avoiding doing anything in the middle of an important foreign series. There were reports that Ajit Agarkar had talked to the Indian captain.

However, it is understood that any such discussion will take place only after the series. Unless Rohit takes a surprise decision to voluntarily withdraw from the Sydney Test, he is expected to lead the team in the fifth and final Test, which is scheduled to begin in a few days.

The report further mentions that the people taking the decision are hopeful that Rohit, who is an excellent batsman, will return to form again. He cites the example of Steve Smith, who struggled in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series, but bounced back by scoring consecutive centuries in the next two matches. Similarly, the recent performance of Virat Kohli is also brought into discussion.

Virat Kohli has scored only 359 runs in his last 23 innings at an average of less than 24 – which is not at all appropriate for a player of his stature. The logic is that if Kohli can be given a chance to play for a long time, then why not Rohit? Even though Virat Kohli is flopping, one thing is also that he has scored a century in this series.
