The court had convicted 28 accused on Thursday. A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of the culprits against this decision, which was rejected by the court. Salim, the accused in the case, did not appear in the court on Thursday. He reached the court on Friday and surrendered.
Chandan Gupta was murdered on January 26, 2018 in Kasganj. There were riots in Kasganj after his death. The situation had become so bad that the administration had to shut down the internet. There were riots at various places in Kasganj for about a week.

Now read, what happened on January 26, 2018…. At 9 am in Kasganj, about 100 workers of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, ABVP and Hindu Yuva Vahini came out on bikes carrying tricolor and saffron flags. Chandan Gupta was also included in this crowd.
The administration had not given permission to carry out the yatra, but these people did not agree. People from small streets entered Kasganj Kotwali area. These people started insisting on passing through a street of Muslim populated Baddu Nagar.
Local people were already organizing Republic Day programs there. Then sloganeering started. The atmosphere deteriorated and stone pelting started from both sides. A bullet was fired, which directly hit Chandan. He was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive. As soon as the news of the death spread, riots started in Kasganj city.
Fearing that the situation would worsen, markets were closed. The then MP Rajveer Singh and IG reached the spot. Amidst the demonstration, at 2 pm, after getting assurance of action against the accused, the body was sent for postmortem. Chandan’s body was brought home after postmortem at 7 pm.
On January 26, 2018, after the funeral of Chandan Gupta, miscreants burnt buses.
After this tension started spreading in the city. PAC and forces were deployed in the entire city. Officers and ministers kept taking updates from Lucknow. A case was registered at 12 o’clock in the night and 31 people were made accused. Three brothers Salim, Wasim and Naseem were made the main accused.

27th January- Chandan’s body was taken for cremation at 8.30 am. The family was adamant on taking action against the accused. At around 10 o’clock Rajveer Singh got the family to talk to CM Yogi. After this he agreed to perform the last rites.
Some people returning from the funeral vandalized the vehicles parked in the old Chungi area at 11.30 am. At 12.30 some shops were set on fire in Barhadwari area of ​​Kasganj.
The administration deployed RAF in the city. Curfew was imposed in the city. The internet was shut down until 28 January. By evening, a closed house, a shop and some vehicles were burnt by the miscreants.
After the murder, Chandan’s body was brought to his house.
Chargesheet filed in December 2018, trial started in 2019 In this case, the police filed a charge sheet in the court in December 2018. The trial began in 2019. On January 24, 2019, Chandan’s sister Kirti was given joining as Lokmitra. On July 5, 2019, Kirti was removed from the post.
In 2020, the two main accused Waseem and Naseem came out of jail on bail. After the family’s appeal to the CM, the case was transferred to the NIA court in Lucknow in November 2021. The hearing was going on since then.
Chandan was cremated on January 27, 2018.
A total of 31 accused were made in this case. On Thursday, the court had acquitted Nasruddin and Asim Qureshi due to lack of evidence. While one accused 1 Azizuddin has died.
The 28 accused who were punished. Their names are- Wasim, Naseem, Zahid, Asif, Aslam, Akram, Taufiq, Khillan, Shawab Ali, Rahat, Salman, Mohsin, Asif, Saqib, Bablu, Zeeshan, Wasif, Imran, Shamshad, Zafar, Sakir, Khalid Parvez, Faizan, Imran, Sakir, Aamir Rafi, Munajir and Salim.
Of these, 26 accused are lodged in Lucknow jail. Munajir is lodged in Kasganj jail. Meanwhile, Salim surrendered in the NIA court today, Friday.
