CBI arrested both the accused from Puducherry and brought them to Kochi.
On 10 February 2006, an unmarried woman and her 17-day-old twin daughters were murdered at Yerram near Anchal in Kollam district of Kerala. The murderer was Dibil Kumar B, a resident of the area, who was 45 A.D. of the Indian Army in 2006. Was in the regiment.
Another comrade of his regiment, P Rajesh, had helped in this murder. After the murder, both the accused ran away without returning to the regiment. In March 2006, the army declared him a deserter.
19 years after the murder, news was received that Kumar and Rajesh were living under changed identities in Puducherry. After searching, on January 3, Chennai CBI arrested both of them and brought them to Kochi.
Both of them got married while living in Puducherry. Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has sent both the accused to police custody till January 18.
Paternity test was the reason for murder
24 year old Ranjini lived with her mother in Anchal. Ranjini and Dibil Kumar were in a relationship. On 24 January 2006, Ranjini gave birth to twin daughters. After which Kumar started maintaining distance from Ranjini.
Ranjini complained about Kumar to the Kerala State Women’s Commission, after which the Commission ordered a paternity test. Angered by this, Kumar conspired to murder Ranjini and her daughters.
According to CBI, Kumar sent Rajesh to Ranjini. Rajesh assured Ranjini’s family that he would help them get married. But he supported Kumar in the murder.
On the day of the murder, Ranjini’s mother had gone to the Panchayat office to get the birth certificates of the twins. On returning, she saw the dead bodies of her daughter and granddaughters in the house. Later informed the police.
Hiding in Puducherry by changing name, also got married
Kerala Police searched for both the accused, but without success. A reward of Rs 2 lakh each was given to both of them. In 2010, the Kerala High Court handed over the case to the CBI, but the agency also failed to catch him. Fleeing from the area, both the accused reached Puducherry. Here he changed his name and identity. Kumar named him Vishnu and Rajesh named him Praveen. He married and also bought property.
Kerala Police used Artificial Intelligence. Found out the identity of the accused and compared the photographs available on social media. One of the photographs showed Kumar attending a wedding, after which teams reached Puducherry and arrested him.
