Assembly elections will be held in Delhi on 5th February and counting of votes will take place on 8th February. The tenure of Delhi Assembly is ending on 23 February. Announcing the schedule of Delhi Assembly elections, Chief Electoral Officer Rajiv Kumar said that there are 2 lakh voters in Delhi who will vote for the first time. A record of voters has been made during the Lok Sabha elections. Now the same is expected from Delhi Assembly elections also. There is an appeal to the youth to continue increasing their participation in democracy in this manner. Democracy will become stronger in future also. Rajeev Kumar also said that recently a complaint was made about deletion of names from the voter list. But it is nothing like that. There is a process to remove names from the voter list, without this no name can be removed.
Delhi’s election mathematics
- Voting will be held on all 70 seats in Delhi on 5 February.
- Counting of votes will take place on February 8 and the results will be revealed.
- There are total 1 crore 55 lakh voters in Delhi.
- There are 71 lakh women voters in Delhi.
- The number of male voters in Delhi is 83 lakh.
- According to the Election Commission, there are 25.89 youth voters in Delhi.
- There are 2 lakh voters in Delhi who will vote for the first time.
- There will be a total of 13,033 polling stations at 2697 places in the capital.
Election bugle sounded in Delhi
The Election Commission announced the election dates here on Tuesday. There are 70 assembly seats in Delhi, out of which 58 are for general category while 12 seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said that there are a total of 1.55 crore registered voters in Delhi and out of these, 83.49 lakh are men and 71.74 lakh are women. He said that the number of young voters (20 to 21 years) is 28.89 lakh while the number of youth eligible to vote for the first time is 2.08 lakh. There will be a total of 13,033 polling stations at 2697 places in the capital and out of these, 210 will be model polling stations. He said that in connection with the preparations for the Delhi Assembly elections, extensive discussions have been held with various law enforcement agencies, which also includes security related aspects. In the capital Delhi, there is a triangular contest between Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress. 36 MLAs are required for majority in Delhi Assembly.
,‘No name has been wrongly removed from the voter list’
On allegations of irregularities in the voting list, Chief Electoral Officer Rajiv Kumar said, ‘Many things are being said on the voter list. Many questions are being raised. A complaint was made about deletion of names from the voter list. It is our responsibility to answer every question. Today the answer is clear. Today every question will be answered. If we look at the data of last 30 elections, in 15 other parties got more votes. There is a process to remove names from the voter list, in which everyone from the Election Commission to the BLO plays an important role. Without this no name can be removed. He told that very soon we are going to become a country with 100 crore voters, the total number of voters has crossed 99 crore.
‘The entire process of EVM is transparent’
The Election Commission said that elections are being conducted in a completely fair manner in the country. Baseless allegations are being made against the Election Commission, which have no basis. Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said, ‘EVM is absolutely safe. All EVMs are sent sealed in front of the agent. Election symbols are inserted in the EVM in front of the party agent. Election symbols are put up seven to eight days in advance. Every party is informed about this. The entire process of EVM is transparent. No illegal vote can be cast in EVM.
