Microsoft Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella said on Tuesday that the company will invest three billion dollars (about Rs 25,700 crore) to expand its cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in India.
Addressing a conference organized here in the presence of founders and executives of technology companies and startup units, Nadella said that the technology giant will also train AI skills to one crore people in India by 2030.
Nadella said the US$3 billion investment in India would be the “biggest expansion” ever made in any country. He said, “The diffusion rate of AI in India is excellent.” However, he did not give any time limit for this investment.
Nadella said, “We are excited about all our sectors in India. We have Central India, South India, West India and South-Central India. We also have capabilities that we have developed jointly with Jio. We are expanding a lot regionally.
Microsoft Chairman also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Monday. Nadella said the Prime Minister shared his views on a range of issues including the artificial intelligence mission in the country, India’s infrastructure and entrepreneurial ambitions.
While sharing a picture with Modi on the social media platform ‘X’, he wrote, “Excited to work on our commitment to make India a leader in the field of artificial intelligence.”

Responding to Nadella’s post, the Prime Minister said that he is “happy to know about Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India.”
