Counting of votes will take place on February 8. With this, political activities have increased a lot in Delhi. We are telling you about the assembly seats of Delhi. In this episode, this time let us know about Gandhi Nagar assembly seat. What is the history of this seat and what is the equation this time?
When was Gandhi Nagar assembly seat created?
Gandhi Nagar is counted among the high profile seats of Delhi. This seat came into existence in 1993. For the last few elections, this seat has been named because of Arvinder Singh Lovely. He has won elections from here four times consecutively. He was elected MLA from here for the first time in 1998. Lovely won her last election here in 2013. After such a victory, Lovely became one of the senior Congress leaders in Delhi. Congress included him in Sheila Dikshit’s cabinet and even made him its state president. But he has changed party twice and joined BJP. Even before the Lok Sabha elections held last year, he left Congress and joined BJP. Now BJP has given him ticket from Gandhi Nagar in the assembly elections.
Arvinder Singh Lovely’s rise
BJP’s Darshan Kumar Behal had won the election for the first time from Gandhi Nagar seat which came into existence in the year 1993. But since then BJP is yearning for victory in Gandhi Nagar. In the 1998 elections, Congress had placed its bet on Arvinder Singh Lovely. Lovely was successful in winning this election. In his first election, Lovely defeated BJP’s Sivindjit Singh Baweja by a margin of six thousand seven hundred and sixty-two votes. In that election, Lovely got 21 thousand 905 votes and Baweja got 15 thousand 143 votes. After this victory, Lovely did not look back. He continued winning from this seat till 2013. He won from Gandhi Nagar even when Aam Aadmi Party contested its first election. But he did not contest elections from here in 2015. In that election, this seat was won by Anil Bajpayee of Aam Aadmi Party. He defeated BJP’s Jitendra by a margin of more than seven thousand votes. In this election, Aam Aadmi Party registered a historic victory in Delhi by winning 67 out of 70 seats.

BJP is dependent on turncoats
Before the 2020 elections, Anil Vajpayee left AAP and joined BJP. He was successful in winning from this seat for the second time also. Vajpayee had defeated AAP’s Naveen Chaudhary by a margin of six thousand 79 votes. Vajpayee got 48 thousand 657 votes and Chaudhary got 42 thousand 610 votes. In this election, Congress had given ticket to Arvinder Singh Lovely. He got 21 thousand 818 votes. He was at third place. But in the 2025 elections, BJP has canceled Vajpayee’s ticket and made Arvinder Singh Lovely its candidate. In this way, BJP has once again expressed confidence in a turncoat to win the battle of Gandhi Nagar. This time also AAP has expressed confidence in Naveen Choudhary on this seat. But Congress has not announced the name of its candidate. There is talk that Congress may field Anil Kumar Vajpayee as its candidate. Who holds the crown of Gandhi Nagar will be known on February 8, when the results of the assembly elections will be declared.
