On the second day of the Sydney Test, Rohit Sharma talked about his drop from the team in an interview.
Rohit Sharma is not playing in the fifth Test being played between India and Australia in Sydney. Many questions were raised when Rohit was not in the playing eleven. Rohit said while talking to broadcaster Star Sports on Saturday, I have not taken retirement.

Rohit Sharma said, “Four-five months ago, my captaincy and my ideas worked very well. Suddenly these things started being called bad. Runs are not being scored today, but there is no guarantee that you will not be able to score runs in future. .
Life will not change by the speaking of people with mike, pen or laptop. They can’t decide when I should retire, when I should sit out, when I should take over the captaincy. I am a sensible man, father of two children. So I know when to do what.
My conversation with the coach and selector was very simple. I was not scoring runs, I am not in form and this is an important match so we need players who are in form. This simple aspect was running in my mind. So I felt that I should tell the coach and selector that I am thinking this way. He supported my decision.
You have been playing for so many years, you know what to do and what not to do. It was a difficult decision for me, but it was also a wise decision. I didn’t want to think too far ahead. Right now the only thing to think about was what the team needed.
I had taken the decision to stay out of the Sydney Test as soon as I reached here because there was less time (a gap of three days) after the Melbourne Test. One day in that too was New Year. I did not want to tell the coach and selector about this decision on New Year, but it was running in my mind that I was working hard but was not performing.
We have seen this many times in cricket that life changes every minute, every second, every day. So I have faith in myself that things will change.
I have come from so far. Have I come to sit outside? I want to play for my team and win matches. This has been going on since the time I first came into the dressing room in 2007, I have to win matches for my team. Sometimes you need to understand what the team needs. If you don’t put the team forward, there’s no point.”
