National President of BJP Minority Morcha, Jamal Siddiqui has demanded to change the name of India Gate to Bharat Mata Dwar. Jamal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi, in which he said that changing the name would be a true tribute to the 10 thousand martyred soldiers of the country.

Jamal said, ‘You named Aurangzeb Road, built after the cruel Mughal, as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road. The statue of George V at India Gate was removed and the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was replaced. Rajpath was renamed as Dutva Path. Similarly, the name of India Gate should be changed to Bharat Mata Dwar.

India Gate built in memory of Indians martyred in the First World War India Gate is a war memorial built in the capital Delhi. It was built in memory of the Indian soldiers martyred in the First World War and the Afghan War. More than 70 thousand Indian soldiers were martyred in the First World War and the Third Afghan War during 1914-1921. The names of 13 thousand 516 soldiers are engraved on India Gate. Many of them were soldiers of British India.

India Gate’s construction began in 1921 and was completed in 1931. It was designed by British architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The height of India Gate is 42 meters. It is made of red and light yellow sandstone.

Amar Jawan Jyoti was added to India Gate after the India-Pakistan war of 1971. It is an eternally burning flame, which keeps burning in the memory of the unsung soldiers. INDIA is written in its upper part and below it there is an inscription, in which it is written about the sacrifice of the martyred soldiers.

India Gate is a symbol of the Indian freedom struggle and subsequent sacrifices. In 2019, a new National Memorial was built near India Gate in honor of the martyrs of the armed forces.
