New Delhi:
There have been long standing differences between Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). But suddenly on Friday VK Saxena praised Delhi Chief Minister Atishi. Saxena described Atishi as “a thousand times better” than former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party convenor Arvind Kejriwal. The Lieutenant Governor has had several heated confrontations with Kejriwal in the last months on legal, administrative and other governance issues.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women on Friday afternoon, VK Saxena said that he was happy that the current Chief Minister is a woman. Taking a look at the Chief Minister sitting next to him on the stage, Saxena said, “…and I can say with full confidence that he is a thousand times better than his previous Chief Minister.”
While VK Saxena praised Atishi in his statement, on the other hand he indirectly targeted Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal.
Atishi took oath as Chief Minister on September 21. At that time, there was some tussle going on within the Aam Aadmi Party as to who would replace Kejriwal. Arvind Kejriwal had resigned a few days before this. Kejriwal had quit the post with a statement after getting bail in the controversial alleged liquor policy scam case ahead of next year’s elections. Kejriwal had announced that he would ask for a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi.
VK Saxena has always used good words for Atishi. However, in April, when Kejriwal was in jail, Saxena had slammed Atishi and his party colleague Saurabh Bhardwaj for their “lack of seriousness” when they called him to his office to discuss “routine tasks of governance”.

Addressing the girl students, LG Saxena said, “As you move forward, four guides emerge in life – first is yourself. You also have some responsibilities towards yourself, which you have to discharge. After this your parents. You also have responsibilities towards your parents. After this your society. After this, your fourth responsibility is to prove yourself as a woman who has demolished all the walls of discrimination and hoisted the flag of victory in every field. But you will be able to discharge all these responsibilities only when you yourself are prosperous and education plays an invaluable role in your prosperity.”
