A video of Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Italia surfaced from Gujarat on Monday. In which Gopal is hitting himself with a belt. He attacked himself about 6 times. He was giving a speech at a public meeting in Surat’s Mini Bazaar in protest against the beating of a woman by the Italia police and taking out a procession.
He said- Police beat up a woman from Amreli and took out a procession. BJP government protects scammers but punishes a woman. I also met the SP to get justice for the victim but nothing happened. I apologize and will punish myself today. This will awaken the sleeping souls of the people.
Saying this, he took out his belt from his pants and started hitting himself. However, the leaders present on the stage stopped him.
In fact, a woman from Amreli was arrested on December 29 for allegedly being involved in a conspiracy to defame BJP MLA Kaushik Vekaria. The court had granted bail to the woman on January 3. The victim had accused the police of assault.

Who is Gopal Italia? Gopal Italia earlier worked as a police constable and clerk in Ahmedabad Collector Office. In 2015, along with Hardik Patel, he started a movement for Patidar reservation in Gujarat. Then he entered state politics.
During the Gujarat Assembly elections in 2017, Italia had thrown a shoe at the then Home Minister Pradeep Singh Jadeja in the Gandhinagar Secretariat. A case was filed against him in this matter.
In the year 2020, Gopal Italia joined Aam Aadmi Party. Within a few months, Arvind Kejriwal made him the Gujarat vice president of AAP. Then he was also made National Joint Secretary.
