Panaji: The Goa police on Tuesday registered a case against Abu Farhan Azmi and others, son of Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, for assault and breach of peace in the state. Restaurant owner and entrepreneur Abu Farhan Azmi is the husband of actress Ayesha Takia.
The development has come to light when SP MLA Abu Azmi is facing criticism from members of the FIR and the ruling coalition in Maharashtra for his comment to the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.
How did the controversy start?
The Goa police said in a release that his control room received a call at 11.12 pm on Monday night, stating that there was a fight in a super market in Candolim (North Goa district). Inspector Paresh Naik of Kalangut police station said that during the quarrel, Abu Farhan Azmi told the rival group that he had a license gun.
Police said Farhan Azmi was going to the Mercedes SUV and when he turned near the Supermarket, two locals in a car behind him argued with Azmi. He claimed that while changing the lane, his car turned bend without using the indicator. During the debate, a group of family members and local people came there. He asked Azmi and his driver to get out of the car. During this, Farhan Azmi told him that he had a license gun.
Both sides were brought to Kalangut police station
The official said that when the police reached the spot, it was found that there was a group of Farhan Azmi among the two groups – there was a quarrel over a minor matter. According to the police release, the two sides involved in the quarrel were later brought to the Kalangut police station. They were given a chance to file a complaint, but both sides refused to file a complaint. The release said, “According to the protocol, he was sent to the district hospital in Mapusa for medical examination, but he refused to do medical examination.”
Farhan showed a permit to carry weapons in Goa
According to the police, Abu Farhan Azmi presented a valid weapon license issued by the concerned authority and a permit to carry arms in Goa. On Tuesday morning, the Kalangut police recorded the statements of all the accused. Since the people involved in this quarrel in public place, disturbing public peace and rioting, the Kalangut police station has registered an FIR on the basis of the complaint of PSI Paresh Sinari on behalf of the government.
