New Delhi:
Adani Green Energy Ltd. (AGEL) has stated in its filing that the allegations of bribery and corruption against Adani Group officials under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) are completely false. Also, it has been told by the company that the US Department of Justice has not made any such allegation against the company. Adani Green Energy has clarified that Gautam Adani, Sagar Adani and Vineet Jain have not been charged with bribery under the US Foreign Corruption Act. The US Justice Department’s charges relate to securities and wire fraud, not bribery or obstruction of justice.
The company stressed that only Azure Power executives and a Canadian investor have been charged with bribery in the US.
Unfounded allegations are being made
From this it becomes clear that the opposition leaders are continuously making absurd allegations against the Adani Group. All the allegations made by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and senior Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi are false. Besides, the allegations made by party president Mallikarjun Kharge have also turned out to be wrong. After these allegations were proved wrong, it is becoming clear that confusion is being spread by senior Congress leaders. Through this confusion, cheap politics is being done by targeting PM Narendra Modi and BJP.
Accusing industrialists of wrong tradition
Many experts say that efforts are being made to hinder the country’s progress by making wild allegations against industrialists.
Let us tell you that AGEN has said in the exchange filing that various media reports have alleged charges of bribery and corruption under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) against Adani Group officials – Gautam Adani, his nephew Sagar Adani and senior director Vineet Jain. They are completely wrong.
BJP has raised questions on this attitude of Congress
BJP has already said that they did not have governments in the four states named in the US case against Adani Group. Congress was in power in Chhattisgarh and its ally party was in power in Tamil Nadu. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra had said that Rahul Gandhi is tarnishing the image of Prime Minister Modi. He raised the Rafale issue in 2019, but later he had to apologize in the Supreme Court.
Rahul had made allegations
Let us tell you that Rahul Gandhi had held a press conference in America on the allegations of corruption against Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. In this he had said that Adani ji is doing a scam of Rs 2 thousand crores and is roaming outside because PM Modi is protecting him. He had alleged that Gautam Adani has committed crimes in America, but nothing is being done against him in India. Rahul Gandhi had also said that SEBI is saving Adani. He also said that a case should be filed against SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch.
After Rahul, Kharge also started spreading confusion
Rahul Gandhi was making these fake allegations just to mislead the public. But now the Parliament session has started and in such a situation the Congress Party has tried to raise this fake issue in the Parliament also. Congress Party President Mallikarjun Kharge has tried to corner the Central Government in this matter of Adani Group. Kharge had raised the issue of Adani under Rule 267 at the beginning of the winter session of Parliament on Monday. He has demanded to constitute a Joint Parliamentary Committee to investigate this matter.
Kharge alleges that when the opposition party members raised this issue, the House was adjourned. He said that there are serious allegations of corruption, bribery and financial irregularities against the Adani Group.
It is noteworthy that it was alleged in America that bribes were given to government officials to enter into contracts with power companies in the states of Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh and Jammu and Kashmir.
What did Shiv Sena say on the matter
There has also been a reaction from Shiv Sena in this matter. Party spokesperson Manisha Kayande says that Rahul Gandhi and his gang are targeting industrialists. They do all this just to humiliate and tease Modi ji.
What do experts say on this matter
It is also important to mention that many experts in the legal world feel that these allegations against Adani Group do not have much substance. Political analysts believe that this could be a continuation of the ongoing campaign against Adani Group and India’s growth story. This includes political and non-political people sitting in America and here in India.
Opinion of senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani
Senior lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani says that this is a conspiracy to stop India’s growth story. There is no doubt about it. You see its timing. The news that comes against Adani through Hindenburg is always followed by a loss for Adani Group.
Statement of former Foreign Secretary
India’s former Foreign Secretary Kanwal Sibal has termed as wrong the framing of charges by the US court in a case of bribery allegedly committed by an Indian citizen on Indian soil. Sibal has raised questions on the US court’s action. He says that this is an encroachment of America’s own judicial jurisdiction. Kanwal Sibal has termed the American action as ‘completely arbitrary’ and a ‘poor use of America’s power’. Former Foreign Secretary Sibal believes that if America had any information about bribery in India, then they should have contacted the Indian legal system and provided the information, and should not have unilaterally prosecuted any Indian citizen.
Allegations against Adani politically motivated: Brahma Chellaney
International affairs expert Brahma Chellaney believes that it is wrong to make allegations against Indian industrialists without taking India into confidence. India and America have been strategic partners. These types of allegations spoil relationships. Chellani believes that the allegations against Adani are politically motivated.
