AFG VS ENG: Afghanistan reversed, won by 8 runs in the thrill match, England’s Boria bed tied with semi -finals

ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Afghanistan Beat England: With the help of Ibrahim Jadran’s 177 runs and five wickets of fast bowler Ajmatullah Umarjai, Afghanistan defeated England by eight runs in an exciting match and dropped it out of the Champions Trophy on Wednesday. England have lost two matches and now they have to play from South Africa in the last league match of Group B, which has three points equal to Australia. Afghanistan now has two points and to reach the next round, Australia will have to defeat Australia.

Jo root’s century innings went in vain

In response to the target of 326 runs to win from Afghanistan, England did not have a good start and lost two wickets for 30 runs. Umarjai took five important wickets for 58 runs and the entire team of England was dismissed for 317 runs with one ball left. Joe Root scored 120 runs in 111 balls with 11 fours and a six. He scored 68 runs for the third wicket with Ben Docket (38) and partnership with captain Jose Butler for the fifth wicket.

England had to bear the brunt of Docket and Butler getting out early as the route fell alone at one end. Root batted with great restraint and avoided taking risks. He completed the 17th one -day century by taking a run off Rashid Khan’s ball. He returned to Rahmanullah Gurbaz by catching the wicket off Umarjai’s ball. Jamie overton had maintained hopes of winning by scoring 32 runs in 28 balls but Umarjai also sent him.

Jadran played a historic innings of 177 runs

Earlier, Afghanistan scored 325 runs for seven wickets with the help of opener Jadran’s 177 runs. Jadran hit 14 fours and six sixes in his 146 -ball innings.

Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 40 runs in 67 balls and added 103 runs in the fourth wicket partnership. Ajmatullah Umarjai scored 41 runs in 31 balls and shared a 72 -run partnership for the fifth wicket. Later, Jadran added 111 runs for the sixth wicket with Mohammad Nabi. The prophet scored 40 runs in 24 balls.

Jofra Archer shows

Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bat, but in the first ten overs, fast bowler Jofra Archer kept him under pressure. Archer took three wickets for 64 runs. Rahmatullah Gurbaz became his first victim. At the same time, he was out LBW for Sedikullah Atal and Rahmat Shah caught Adil Rashid on Square leg. Afghanistan lost three wickets for 37 runs within the powerplay.

After this, Jadran and Shahidi handled the innings. After completing the first Pachasa 65 balls, Jadran reduced the pressure on Jamie overton with two consecutive fours. On the other hand, Shahidi became bold in an attempt to reverse sweep to leg -spinner Rashid. After this, Jadran carried forward the rungi with Umarjai. England also suffered from fast bowler Mark Wood’s knee injury which could only put eight overs.

Standing till the last

Jadran completed the sixth century in ODI cricket in 106 balls. He hit a six and two fours in an over of overson. Even after the dismissal of Umarjai, the 23 -year -old batsman hit Archer for a six and three fours and scored 150 crosses for the second time in his career. He scored fast runs with an experienced prophet and shared 11 runs per over for the sixth wicket. England scored 113 runs in the last ten overs. Jadran was dismissed by Liam Livingstone in the last over.
