New Delhi:
The election campaign for Delhi Assembly elections is going on in full swing. Friday is the last day of nomination. Meanwhile, news came on Wednesday that the Union Home Ministry has given permission to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. This case is to be prosecuted in a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam. Just a month before this, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had given permission to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal in the same case. This case will be conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). This permission given to ED during elections has become like a weapon for the opposition in Delhi. Through this, she will target Aam Aadmi Party in corruption cases.
Aam Aadmi Party has called this order of the Home Ministry as unexpected. He says that a petition by Arvind Kejriwal in this regard is pending in the Delhi High Court. In this petition, Kejriwal has appealed to cancel the order of the lower court, in which it has been said that the case should be prosecuted on the basis of ED charge sheet without any necessary approval. However, the Supreme Court had said that ED will have to take approval to prosecute. After this, ED had sought approval from the Home Ministry.
what is the whole matter
Getting approval to prosecute Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia right in the midst of elections is being considered as a big blow for AAP. Both the opposition parties in Delhi, BJP and Congress, are continuously putting AAP in the dock on corruption charges. You are uncomfortable with this. Because it is a party that emerged from the anti-corruption movement. Before coming to power in Delhi, AAP leaders had made many promises. But many of its leaders, including AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, have gone to jail on corruption charges. These days, these leaders are among the public on bail. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia had to step down due to legal hurdles. Before this, both of them continued running their government from jail. While granting bail to Kejriwal, the Supreme Court has imposed a condition that he will not sign any government file.
For the last few days, BJP has been alleging a loss of Rs 2,000 crore due to the Delhi Liquor Policy scam. For this she kept citing a report of CNG. AAP leaders kept denying any such CAG report. But on the appeal of six BJP MLAs, the Delhi High Court also said that the Delhi government delayed presenting this report.
AAP and BJP face to face on corruption
BJP is continuously cornering AAP on the issue of corruption. She is raising the issue of liquor policy as well as the alleged scam of Delhi Jal Board. Just a few days ago, BJP had issued a charge sheet against the Aam Aadmi Party government in this regard. In this, BJP had accused Arvind Kejriwal of making Delhi a laboratory of corruption. After the allegations of corruption being made by BJP, Arvind Kejriwal had also expressed the fear of arrest of Chief Minister Atishi. He had said that a file is being prepared against Atishi in the Transport Department. In such a situation, if BJP makes this approval an issue, then your problems will increase.
What was the liquor policy of Delhi?
In the Delhi Liquor Policy case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a charge sheet against Arvind Kejriwal under the anti-corruption law. In this matter, he had got the necessary approval in August last year itself. But ED could not get permission. The new liquor policy in Delhi was implemented in 2021-2022. In this the opposition had alleged scam. The opposition said that this policy was made to benefit a lobby. After this, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi ordered the CBI to investigate this matter. After this the Delhi government withdrew that policy. Later ED also joined the investigation of this case. Many people including Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia were arrested in this case. Kavitha, daughter of the then Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, is also among those arrested.
