All the bodies will be kept for postmortem and DNA tests in Morchari of Civil Hospital, Headquarters, Haporong.

The bodies of 5 more laborers killed in the Assam illegal mine accident have been recovered. The search operation took 44 days for the rescue team. Police said that the bodies have been badly rotten. DNA test will be done to identify workers.

Earlier on 8 January, one body and three bodies were recovered on 11 January. In fact, 9 laborers were trapped due to water filling in Umrangaso coal mine in Dima Hasao district.

The team of the rescue operation Indian Army and NDRF was running together.

The government will give compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of all the victims. Also, 220 similar mines running illegally will be closed.

The Assam Police arrested Hanan Laskar and Punush Nunisa in connection with the mine accident. At the same time, Kom Kamparayi and Pitush Langthasa of Congress’s Dima Hasao Unit have lodged an FIR against Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and his wife Kanika Hojai. It has demanded immediate arrest of Gorlosa and Hozai. It is claimed that both of them were getting illegal mining in the mine.

At the same time, Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi wrote a letter to PM Modi regarding the mine accident and has demanded to make SIT to investigate the matter. Gaurav wrote- The victim families should get justice and it is our responsibility to ensure that such incidents do not happen in future.

One such incident took place in the East Jantia Hills of Meghalaya in 2018. Where 15 laborers were killed by stuck in coal mine. On December 13, 20 miners entered the 370 feet deep mine in this mine, out of which 5 laborers came out before filling the water. 15 laborers could not be saved.
