Aurangzeb controversy: Abu Azmi appeared before Mumbai police after getting bail from court

Mumbai:

Samajwadi Party President and MLA Abu Azmi reached Marine Drive Police Station in Maharashtra on Wednesday. Azmi reached the police station on the court’s order. Talking to the media, Azmi said that I respect Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Shivaji Maharaj. In this case I have taken the antcimiperry vine. I have to go to the police station for three days. There was no case in this, but now I am afraid, when the case is going on without doing anything.

Please tell that SP leader Abu Azmi had praised the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb in the past. Abu Azmi had said, “Aurangzeb was the reality of justice. India became a golden bird during his tenure. I do not consider Aurangzeb as a cruel ruler. In Aurangzeb’s time, there was a battle of rule, not a fight, not a Hindu-Muslim fight. Aurangzeb built many Hindu temples during his tenure. Aurangzeb is shown wrong history.” However, later Abu Azmi, while presenting a clarification on his statement, said that his words were distorted.

Controversy started with Chhava film
The recently released film ‘Chhava’ started a debate about Aurangzeb. The film was based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire and the elder son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Vicky Kaushal plays Sambhaji in the film, while Akshaye Khanna played the role of Aurangzeb. The film shows Sambhaji’s courage, sacrifice and atrocities of Aurangzeb. Sambhaji was brutally killed by Aurangzeb in 1689, which was tried to introduce in a emotional manner in the film.

What was the dispute between Shivaji and Aurangzeb
Aurangzeb, who was the Mughal emperor from 1658 to 1707, is known for his religious fanaticism and strict Sharia laws. On the other hand, Shivaji Maharaj established Maratha Swaraj and fought many battles against the Mughals. In 1666, Aurangzeb called Shivaji to Agra and tried to imprison him, but Shivaji cleverly escaped by hiding in sweets baskets. The incident was derogatory for Aurangzeb and deepened the enmity between the two.

After Shivaji’s death, his son Sambhaji handled the Maratha Empire. In 1689, Aurangzeb caught Sambhaji and brutally murdered him. The incident further increased the fight between the Marathas and the Mughals. According to historians, Aurangzeb destroyed many temples under his rule and implemented Jiziya, which increased resentment against him in the Hindu community. At the same time, some people believe that Aurangzeb was a skilled administrator, who kept the huge empire united.
