Baby John’s Review
None of Varun Dhawan’s films were released in theaters for two years. Although he was seen in Stree 2 and Munjya this year, but these were not his lead role films. Now his film ‘Baby John’ has arrived in theatres. This was said to be an adaptation of Atlee’s film ‘Theri’. Some even called it a remake of ‘Theri’. But Atlee and the director of ‘Baby John’ denied that they had not copied the entire picture. When the trailer came out, many people said that the film would be a frame by frame copy of ‘Theri’.
Since we have seen the movie. So let us tell whether it is different from Theri or not. If it is different then in what ways is it different, and if not different then in what ways is it not different. There was a lot of talk about Salman Khan’s cameo. How was it? Let’s start the story.
Would have copied properly!
Such a bad opening sequence has not been seen in any film recently. Although Varun Dhawan is not in it, there is a lot of overacting. The policeman cries in such a strange artificial way, it is beyond comprehension. I don’t feel like spending much on the film, but I have work to do so I have to do it. If you have seen ‘Theri’, then you must know the story. There is a man in a double role. Oh no brother, it is a double role, we are not giving spoilers. Same man, in the same role, just different names. She has two love interests. You might be wondering, what new is this you are telling. I felt the same after watching the film, what a new thing the makers are showing. We have seen this hundreds of times. And I have also seen ‘Theri’. More than half the scenes are ditto copies. Some changes have been made in the screenplay, but that too is nothing special. Like an attempt has been made to bring the character of the teacher into a little action mode; and so on and so forth.

This is Atlee’s biggest defeat from Varun Dhawan
Mass cinema is also a genre, not for everyone. ‘Baby’ John proves this time and again. Kalis is the director of this film. Atlee has built this project under his supervision. But together they have made a bad film. Varun Dhawan has been vested. Or rather, this genre of mass cinema does not suit him. He is of the ‘Main Tera Hero’ type in this film. The swag of this genre has not been lost on him. He is a good actor, ‘Badlapur’ and ‘October’ are examples of this, but Varun does not fit in this genre. He also tries his best to become fit, but is unable to succeed.
However, it is mostly the director’s fault. The director has put a lot of effort into fan service. A lot of effort has been made to highlight only one character. But for fan service you should also have a masi hero, who is not Varun Dhawan. Could have been made after this film, but here too he has missed the mark. The cool swag required for this genre is shot only on actors like Salman and Thalapathy Vijay. Varun Dhawan should not try to become Salman. One should invest oneself in content cinema by choosing good scripts. Otherwise, the makers of this film have failed more than Varun Dhawan.
Who will go to see Salman’s cameo?
Salman Khan comes last. Action is shown and the film ends. Felt like seeing them more. It was said that Atlee himself directed the sequence involving Salman, and it is also visible. Agent Bhaijaan has looted the gathering. But this comes after the film is over. By now all this has gone viral on social media, so no one would like to go to the theater to watch Baby John for two and a half hours just for five minutes. If you dare to do something like this then do it at your own risk.
Rajpal Yadav is amazing!
Firstly, there are so many montages in the film that there is no limit. I mean, marriage and children are fine, but a big revenge sequence was hurriedly removed. Jackie Shroff has become the villain in the film. He has played his role in a dreadful manner. But then again, there is no depth in that character. Jackie’s track from ‘Theri’ starts a little differently and also ends a little differently, but it is not much fun. Seeing him on screen does not create fear. Nor are you able to relate to his character. Yes, I feel happy after seeing Rajpal Yadav. The director has done fan service for them too. Here he has also been successful. Perhaps the applause received for his dialogue ‘Comedy is a serious business’ was no less than Salman Khan’s entry. Vamika Gabbi and Keerthy Suresh have got good screen time in the film. He has also taken advantage of this. Except for a few places, both did a fine job.
Overall the picture is bad. I found ‘Theri’ just okay, so its remake had to be like this. Although many remakes are also good. But now the trend of remakes should be stopped, otherwise there will be a situation of closing the theatres.
