Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ is a remake of Vijay Thalapathi and Samantha’s ‘Theri’. I had seen this Tamil film released in the year 2016. After watching Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarafira’, one feels scared of watching Hindi remakes of Tamil films and the reason for fear is that these films are similar ‘frame to frame’. If compared to ‘Theri’, Varun Dhawan’s ‘Baby John’ is almost 50 percent different from Vijay Thalapathi’s film. If you like films of Tamil directors like Shankar, Atlee, then you will like ‘Baby John’. Because ‘Baby John’ is a South style masala film made with Bollywood actors.
Story
Baby John (Varun Dhawan) has lost a lot in his life. Leaving behind the past of Mumbai, he has started a new life in Kerala. He is survived by his daughter, a friend Jackie (Rajpal Yadav) and Tiger (dog). ‘Star’ DCP Satya Verma, who once beat up goons with his baton, is now living a life of anonymity. In the film ‘Baby John’, director Kalij has presented Varun Dhawan in an interesting manner. We have seen Varun doing romance and comedy most of the time. Everyone likes his ‘naughty’ style seen in ‘Swami’ type look. But with ‘Baby John’ and ‘Citadel’, Varun is trying to prove that he can also become an action hero. Varun has done complete justice to his character in ‘Baby John’. But it will be interesting to see how much the Hindi audience will be able to digest his rowdy style. Watching the film, it may seem that Varun is over-acting, but Varun is only doing what the director has asked him to do. Same thing happened with Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Jawaan’, which is happening with Varun after watching this film.
Many did not like the way Atlee had presented Shahrukh Khan. Kalij is his disciple and in ‘Baby John’ he has made a remake of his guru’s film. Obviously, they have also tried to present Varun on the big screen like Tamil superstars Vijay Thalapathi and Ajith.

Even though ‘Baby John’ has been directed by Kalij, watching it reminds me of Atlee. All the high points in the film have been changed. But for the first 20 minutes the film resembles Theri ‘frame to frame’. This could have been changed. When the beginning itself seems like a routine, the entire excitement may be lost. No matter how much we say, it is the era of those who judge a book by its cover.
There is nothing new in the story of ‘Baby John’. But still, Kalij spends a lot of time telling a familiar story. Some fights to show the hero’s masculinity and his pure heart and then sizzling songs to show his romantic side, amazing dialogues and various social issues like rape, women trafficking, exploitation of poor children to impress the audience. Talking about all this masala, Tamil film directors Shankar and Atlee have already tried it in their films. Now the college has also done the same. But this equation gets spoiled in the climax. The climax is very predictable, it does not end on the high note on which the film should have ended. More at the end of the film than the climax salman khan Win hearts.

Varun Dhawan has made even a predictable film fun with his acting. While watching the film, many times you may feel that why is Varun crying like this, it is becoming too much. But the film does not bore and its credit Varun Dhawan Will have to give. Seeing Varun doing South style action is a different experience. But he has that madness which is necessary for South style films. Even though the journey from a chocolate boy to a mass hero is not so easy. But Varun Dhawan has started on this path. The father-daughter chemistry between him and Zara (onscreen daughter Khushi) in ‘Baby John’ also wins hearts.
The character that Vamika is playing in this film is completely different from Vijay Thalapathi’s film. But why did Keerthy Suresh choose this film for her Bollywood debut? This is a very big question. If Kirti, who won the National Award for a film like ‘Mahanati’, wanted, she could have made her Bollywood debut with some other film. Her character in this film is similar to the character of Samantha. No changes have been made in that character. Keerthi is amazing in terms of acting. But the question still remains as to why he debuted with this film. Rajpal Yadav is going to be seen doing action in this film. A lot of whistles are blown for his dialogue ‘Comedy is serious business’. After Singham, Jackie Shroff is also playing a negative character in ‘Baby John’. Both his look and his character are scary.
to see or not to see
After ‘Pushpa 2’ our expectation from the action scenes has increased. But good action scenes will be seen in ‘Baby John’. The hero both kills and gets beaten. There is violence in the film, but there is logic and emotions behind it, which justifies this violence. However, should such films get UA certificate? This can be a topic of discussion, because there was a time when for the sake of UA certificate, if there was a scene of pouring acid in the film, then it was suggested to trim the reaction of the actress after the pouring of acid after a few seconds, but the same. The Censor Board is easily issuing UA certificates to films containing violence. Even though there may be logic in the action of the film, what is the logic behind the Censor Board giving UA to such films? This has not been revealed yet.
The film has been released under the banner of Cine 1 Studios along with Jio Studios and A for Apple. It has a great combination of emotions, action, music and laughter. Rest is the time of Christmas, if you have already seen Pushpa 2, then you can go to the theater and watch Baby John. If you are a fan of Varun Dhawan or Tamil films, then you will enjoy it a lot. And anyway, Varun Dhawan himself has said that many like me have come, but I have come for the first time, so I have to go to the theater to be welcomed.
