Dhaka: India’s neighboring country Bangladesh wants to change its history. In this sequence, new textbooks have been released in Bangladesh. It is told in these books that Ziaur Rehman had declared the country’s independence in 1971. In the books till now, the credit for this has been given to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This information has been given in a news in the media. In the news of ‘Daily Star’ newspaper it has been said that many changes have been made in the new textbooks of primary and secondary students.
The title of ‘Father of the Nation’ was removed
The title of ‘Father of the Nation’ for Mujibur Rahman has also been removed from the textbooks. The report quoted National Curriculum and Textbook Board Chairman Professor AKM Riazul Hasan as saying that the new textbooks for the academic year 2025 will mention that “On March 26, 1971, Ziaur Rahman had declared the independence of Bangladesh and on March 27, He made another declaration of independence on behalf of Bangabandhu.”
What did the author and researcher say
Rakhal Raha, a writer and researcher who was involved in the process of revising the textbooks, reportedly said that she attempted to rid the textbooks of “exaggerated, imposed history”. The interim government had also canceled the national holiday declared for August 15 on the anniversary of Mujibur Rahman’s assassination. (Language)
